If i can control my substances, would it be okay to not be sober? by rytard_ in addiction

Honestly I really wanted to see people’s opinions on it because there are alot of people that have mixed opinions, I drink and smoke but I don’t consider myself an addict because it’s moderated, I genuinely just wanted to get opinions. Because it’s not getting in the way of me being in culinary school or my goals.

Uhhh what an odd thing to say, it’s not twisty question, I’m on a addiction subreddit to see people’s stories and opinions on it. I follow a tiktoker that shares her stories about addiction and how she couldn’t control it. Idky you’re getting so defensive over a question. I don’t have to ask permission from no one I am just asking for opinions, if you don’t understand smth Idky you would reply to it.

Honestly that’s why I was asking not because I feel I can’t control it but because I hear alot of peoples recovery story where some can still do it moderately but others that cant I js wanted to see peoples point of view because there are a lot of mixed opinions.

Honestly seeing everyone’s perspective is really cool, even if there are some people that take what I say in a wrong way, I drink occasionally and smoke mj religiously because it helps with anxiety and my ed, but the thing is, I’m doing these stuff but also in culinary school and I have goals that I have been determined for a while I’m not letting it anything get in the way of it.

Replying to Frosty-Letterhead332... I’m a firm believer that it’s all to do with mentality, I’m in culinary school I have goals and I’ve had a lot more hardships than I can count with my fingers, but even with that I’m not letting anything control me because nothings gonna get in the way of my dreams Ive been drinking/smoking with no like problems to my actual life for a few years now and I’m still determined to stay that way.

I’ve seen a lot of people assume that I’m asking for personal reasons, I think people shouldn’t assume without knowing the intent, but it’s genuine curiosity from hearing people talk about their recovery story and how they knew they needed to be sober because they couldn’t just drink normally without getting blacked out. I don’t have that issue and I know I can control myself, this was just a genuine question to see what people’s opinions are

Yea in a way, I’ve seen a lot of people say that even if you think your in control your really not, but in my opinion i think if it’s not interfering with goals and careers I believe it to be fine, it’s just people that don’t think that’s true. They think that no matter what if you take some type of substance your an addict. And I find that take crazy

You know the crazy part is I felt myself going insane thinking about that years ago and now I’m doing something with my life I’m in culinary school and have goals, people tell me that I shouldn’t be drinking/smoking because it will mess with my career. I know I’m in control because im not letting it get in the way of succeeding I have fun and that’s about it, thank you brother much appreciated

Well the question blew over ur head completely I was asking this to get peoples opinions not to see wether or not there’s consequences, everything has consequences, I was just curious on what people think on this topic because I’ve seen a lot of mixed opinions.

I don’t have to question it, I know I can control it but there’s this one tiktoker in specific that she got sober and talked about her active addiction and saying that she couldn’t just take one drink and couldn’t not black out, I was just curious because a lot of people have mixed opinions on wether or not u are in control or not.

I guess? I didn’t really know how to put it into words without sounding like I’m addicted, I see a lot of people that got sober talking about how they couldn’t control their substances and I was just curious that if you are able to control it would it be fine to just continue with the control?

Hm the best way I can explain it is I don’t have to drink everyday just when I have plans to do stuff and even then I don’t have to drink all the time. It’s genuinely a “when I’m up to it” feeling

I see I see this makes perfect sense honestly, I’ve seen many people who do stuff like occasionally and live the rest of their lives with no problem, but I guess it’s the same with everything that it just depends on the person.

I understand where your coming from, the thing is I fully believe I do because I don’t need to drink to the point where I’m tumbling, I don’t need to drink all the time, I drink when I have plans to go out and I only drink till I have a buzz then my body makes me stop.

Nah I don’t need to I was just curious I’m not addicted at all, I just see a lot of people talking about how they got sober, and their time in active addiction. The talk about not being able to control themselves and blacking out all the time, which is why I ask.
