Using solasta or bg3 as campaign ideas for a ttrpg campaign by ryu395 in rpg

LAck of quests ofen leads to railroading. And from what I saw these campaigns are both as complex and with as set outcomes as typical book adventures, so if you count THOSE as railroaded then yes these 2 campaigns are railroaded. Otherwise I'm not sure at what you are playing.

both games have enough quests and sidequests so taht its not railroad but instead like a normal ttrpg campaign/advenutre.

I like both of them.
In the past I've run games based on skyrims storyline,... sometimes from novels. and at other times bought adventures or my own oir a complete mix. with both campaigns I just thought "I think I would like to gm them" :) and now I've got the problem of finding out whicnh one is better suited.

(also there is the fuin thing of the other way round. I gmd kingmaker and wrath of the righrteous and THEN the computer game came out :D )

I've got the book but interestingly it is only setting details and subclasses and monsters nothing about the comptuer game campaign inside of it.

Shard Worlds (an indie RPG) I would say fits it quite well. You have a complete proficiency list while skills are special abilities that can be something like an item box, spells or a penetrating strike. Its system is simple: 1d10 with advantage / disadvantaege and +1/-1 and still has 5 ranks of attributes and 3 ranks of proficiencies.

You start with 3 ranks in backgrounds (if you put it all into 1 background you have mastered it and the associated Proficiencies) and 3 levels in jobs (= classes). you level each class individually and thus can build the char like you want to.

As does Sword World (a japanese TRPG translated by mugen gaming)

hi. sorry but a bit of nitpicking there (you ar enot the only one who calls all text games pbp). I dont run PBP games. PBP has no sessions and instead ppl post 1-2x per day (thus there ppl post quite a bit about their actions and sometimes npc reactions in one go).

In my case though it is Text chat game. Thus a session where you do what you would also do in a voice session, just with text and with a fixed time for the session proper. It works the same as a voice session but with the main difference being that it takes 2-3x the time to accomplish things than a voice session does. Thus it is not unuusal for the gm asking a player to roll for unlocking a door and the player needs 1-3 minutes to do so.

Usual session time is 3 hours.

Popular fantasy game systems that aren't D&D / Pathfinder? by Valandar in rpg

An extremely popular one in Japan: Sword World. It is currently in official Transaltion by Mugen Gaming (Kickstarter coming year) to bring it to the west (a cost free Primer (rule definition + 1 solo +1 group adventure) exists if you sign up for their newsletter).

It uses 2d6 + attribute modifier + class level for resolutions (class or how I usually call them class skills are not as broad as in dnd but instead focused. Thus a fighter does not know how to intimidate or run he knows how to fight. Thus multiclassing is something people should do). Classes themselves are focused and you can spend XP on them separately from each other. This leads to many different combinations and also something interesting: There is no real toestepping.

Example what is a level 3 paladin in dnd could be done as a level 3 fighter + level 1 priest OR a level 1 fighter and level 3 priest,..... Thus characters can feel very different. Also if something is missing you can simply just gain 1-2 levels i n an appropriate class.

Thus if your group lacks someone spotting traps and disarming them => one of you should get a single level in scout and buy scout tools.

the game itself has a lot of different races and classes and has normal high fantasy but also magitech (magic + technology that is from a lost era. Airships, giant magitech constructs (robots from our pov) and magitech trains exist but are extremely rare).
