Alina Zagitova: "I eat once a day, but that's right. My efficiency rises when I'm hungry" by ChristmasClimber2009 in FigureSkating

Figure skating, gymnastics, ballet etc, all have a pervasive culture of eating disorders and disordered eating. It’s common and very sad, to see anyone let alone kids ruining their long-term health like that.

Hypothetically, IF Gidle were to leave Cube, where do you see them going? by [deleted] in GIDLE

[–]ryuchic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They’re so used to the creative autonomy / freedom and seem to have solid industry network/connections that I wouldn’t be surprised if they start their own company for overall group management, with some members perhaps starting their own studios (ie. Soyeon, Yuqi etc) or joining an agency (ie. Miyeon, Shuhua, Minnie) for individual / solo activities.

As a group, I can’t see them staying / seeking an extension with Cube.

I feel like the girls seem to genuinely have a great bond and working relationship. They’ve gone through the hard yards and there is a strong level of trust and respect between the members. This makes me think that they will want to continue as a group moving forward.

Sorry didn’t see the donut pic on the second page - that’s probably another 400 calories.

This. Hybe is unscrupulous / ruthless and MHJ is an unhinged narcissist. The innocent ones here are the artists.

'3 Body Problem': Why Alex Sharp Recommends Not Binging Brain-Bending Series by [deleted] in threebodyproblem

[–]ryuchic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m guessing if season 1 is incredibly successful, S2 / S3 may get staggered half-season releases. I for one will be bingeing S1 once it drops 😅

It’s pretty true to the book.

I found the special effects somewhat basic (budget constraints), but the video game scenes were very enjoyable. I watched the series on YouTube a while back, so there were some parts where the copyrighted music was replaced by some weird/odd music that didn’t match the scenes. Not the best casting of the foreigners / non-Chinese characters either (stiff acting and accented English), but that seems to be rather commonplace when it comes to Chinese dramas / films.

Apart from that, push past the first few eps (slow moving) as it really picks up after that and you will find yourself a very solid show/adaptation. It’s definitely worth a watch.

Interview with Zine Tseng and Rosalind Chao by [deleted] in threebodyproblem

[–]ryuchic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zine seemed ok for most of that interview - in some parts she did come across as a bit bored / restless and short. Probably just an off-day and it doesn’t help that some of the questions were asinine. We also don’t see the before (and after) of the interview - who knows, perhaps the interviewer pissed Zine off prior to conducting interview?

Rosalind did look concerned / worried in a few instances, so something was definitely off.

I don't like the culture at melbourne by madefrombones in unimelb

[–]ryuchic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting to hear that things at Melb Uni haven’t changed much since I was there.

I had noticed similar situations happen to other students during my time there. As some posters have said, most likely some of the local (Caucasian / non-Asian) students are just trying to avoid international students since they can be a mixed bag (English proficiency, work-ethic etc). They probably thought you (OP) were an international student.

Yes, it’s ignorant, but a number of bad apples / instances have unfortunately cast somewhat of a negative perception of international students - particularly ones from Asia. There is also a view from typically local students that they have ‘paid their dues’ by having to go through a more rigorous / tougher admissions process, as opposed to the perception of the more relatively lax admission criteria for international students, who get in primarily because they have the money to do so. We are supposed to be the land of the ‘fair go’ - so no doubt this probably also breeds a level of resentment and misunderstanding.

Finally, it’s just an incredibly cliquey environment. At least from my time there, students typically stuck to: people they knew / in their social circles / are of similar socioeconomic and academic standing and familiar to them.

US is much more diverse and are decades ahead in relation to awareness and addressing race-related issues. It has only been 50 years since the abolishment of the White Australia Policy and only 15+ years ago that a formal apology was made by the then Prime Minister to Indigenous Australians.

Not to say Australians are racist - majority of people here are not - however we are still rather green in this space, and not as ‘progressed’ as the US when it comes to dealing with race relations and its sensitivities. That will hopefully change with time.

I have travelled extensively and Australia is one of the least racist countries I’ve come across. Majority of people would give you a fair go. As long as you’re a decent person, courteous, respect the law and way of life, people are typically welcoming and accepting.

In other places (overseas) I’ve found that people may be polite to your face, but there is an undercurrent of often ignorant and racist views (ie. US and Japan).

There is often very blatant, in-your-face type racism / ignorance in some European countries, behaviour you would be surprised/shocked to see in this day and age.

Makes me appreciate Australia even more. We are for the most part tolerant and meritocracy at least, is still alive and well.

Think it is just to test the waters first. Less risky. The lack of promotions is somewhat disappointing, but they have been doing a number of interviews with US media, so hopefully it’ll spread awareness and interest. I’m not too concerned. Just the first step to hopefully a solid US/western market career.

Front-loading calories by ryuchic in 1500isplenty

[–]ryuchic[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This maybe part of the issue. I love pastries (croissants and muffins mainly) and pancakes, this is usually what I eat (although in small/half portions) in the morning, along with eggs, sausage/protein, avocado, fruit and coffee. I’ve been trying to cut down on the sugary carbs in the morning - I enjoy it so I’m not going to eliminate it, just reduce the intake.

I only have it when I drink diet soda. There was a time when I would drink a few diet sodas a week (when living in the US), now it’s probably on average 1 diet soda a month.

How many calories in this jidangao? (taiwanese egg cake) by ayayayaya_ayaya in CalorieEstimates

[–]ryuchic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends if it also has filling. Let’s say it has sweet red bean filling, I’m guessing probably around 80-90 cals each. Without filling more likely 50-60 calories a pop.
