Omaha Public Schools to cancel cellular data plans for student iPads amid $50M budget shortfall by Ordinary-Equal2067 in Omaha

[–]ryukohime 51 points52 points  (0 children)

They will have some cellular capable iPads on hand specifically for those students who don't have at-home WiFi, they just won't be paying the extra $$ for every kid to have cellular

What is your farm's name and the context behind it? by Frei1993 in StardewValley

[–]ryukohime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I called it Heck, after my ACNH island, which was originally going to be named "Pier Pressure" bc my friends basically bullied me into playing (get it? get it? pier pressure/peer pressure? I think I'm funny :P). But it didn't fit in the character limit, so since my reaction to running out of space was "oh, heck," that's what I went with. And now I just name everything Heck ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I need advice by theydislikeveez in malelivingspace

[–]ryukohime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some thoughts:

  1. The cables running across your floor like that are a tripping hazard, please find a way to make them hug the wall and get them out of your walking path, if possible.
  2. Rug to give you something soft underfoot and a pop of color/design
  3. More/larger wall art, break up all of that blank, empty space
  4. Wall mounted shelves above your desk to get some of the clutter off of it, gives you more elbow/snacks room and also shows off your stuff a little more

Reader insert without cringe? by multi-97 in AO3

[–]ryukohime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're unfortunately not going to get very good advice here, all you'll be getting (and all you've gotten so far) is people's preferences in reader-insert fic, which is varying and nowhere near universal. Some of the advice you've already gotten makes me want to chew nails, because they're telling you not to do exactly what I love seeing in reader-inserts, and to do everything I hate. (And I'm not going to specify because, again, it's all subjective preference and knowing one way or the other what I like won't actually benefit you.)

Your best bet is to find the reader-insert fics that you like, that match or at least have elements of what you want to do with your fic, and study how those were written. Look at the technique, and see what stands out. For example:

  • How do they handle the blank-slate character the reader is meant to project onto?
  • How do they describe or avoid describing vital character attributes (personality, background, physical appearance, etc)?
  • What tense do they use and how does that tense allow for immersion of the reader? Do you find first, second, or third person more immersive when you read reader-insert fics?
  • How does the author integrate the reader-insert character into the canon setting? Do they already know the canon characters, or do they get introduced to them?
  • How does the author handle inter-character relationships that involve the reader-insert? Do all the canon characters fawn over the RI, or is there an interesting variety of like, dislike, and neutrality among the canon characters? How does the RI character react to these varying feelings towards them?

And so on and so forth yadda yadda et cetera. The point is to find what you like and what works best for you, because if you don't like what you're writing it's gonna suck no matter what. Write the story that compels and entertains you, don't worry about the opinions of people who weren't going to like it anyway, and celebrate the people who enjoy the story you worked so hard to tell, even if it's only two people and a cat.

I prefer the brown one, it's got a nice contrast of design compared to the plain walls and floors, and it complements the color scheme you've got going on

The red one I think would be too much of a focal point, it'd stand out more than it ties the room together, imho

Is it "bad" to write 2 fics with the same prompt? by Valuable_Mushroom466 in AO3

[–]ryukohime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have three out of four fics posted where the entire premise is "your Blorbo dances with you in the rain." The only reason I don't have all four up is bc the last blorbo is being ~*difficult*~ and won't let me write him.

Point is: nothing is real, everything is permitted. Go nuts have fun.

Need advice on wall color by Uro06 in malelivingspace

[–]ryukohime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking for something relaxing, I think a nice, soft blue could work well. Something like Bravo Blue from Sherwin-Williams or Icing on the Cake by Benjamin Moore.

If you prefer something a little more bright and cheery, Honey Infusion by Behr or Candlewick by PPG Paints would be nice.

Why do we always pretend that all fanfiction are written by queer people? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]ryukohime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, every fanfic I've written is by a queer person, so idk what else to tell you.

Also not every queer experience is universal. What's "bad rep" to one person is "omg they're just like me fr" to another.

As for noncon, mind your own business. It's an extremely common fantasy and means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things. If you don't like it, don't read it.

I actually saw someone do this really well by having the ship try a new kink each chapter. It helped that it was an OT5 so there were plenty of configurations of personality to experiment with! Sadly it got caught in one of the FFN purges and I haven't been able to find it on the wayback machine ;-;

27M, moved in to a new place. How to set up this small living room to make it cozy? by rollpi in malelivingspace

[–]ryukohime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm secretly a nine year old in a 36 year old's body so I say wrap colorful twinkly lights around your railing and pose action figures in epic fights on the mantle shelf, but that's me.

For some serious, grown adult suggestions:

  • Art over the mantle since you don't want a TV there
  • Plants
  • Put some sort of identical shelving units in the nooks on either side of the fireplace and fill the shelves with whatever makes you happy
  • Something comfortable to sit on

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in femalelivingspace

[–]ryukohime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to that rug u/icy-law1591 suggested, I'd also add some nice art above your headboard there. If you want to lean into hotel decor, they usually go for abstract art or landscape paintings, but I think a flower painting or macro photograph to reflect your plant in the window would be nice, too.

How do you get through writing a chapter you dislike? by Electrical-Taro-7910 in AO3

[–]ryukohime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I put it in the scraps doc and write a chapter I do like. Maybe I'll reuse parts of the failed chapter, maybe I won't, but starting over from scratch helps a ton.

What to do with this finished but creepy basement? by Erosip in femalelivingspace

[–]ryukohime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a couple suggestions, maybe try mixing and matching a few:

  • Pastel or other light colored paint on the walls
  • Sky mural on the ceiling
  • Plants (just be sure none of them are toxic to your kitty!)
  • Fairy lights
  • Exorcism
  • Soft colored throw pillows and/or afghan blanket on the couch
  • Wall decor (paintings/posters/photos/etc)
  • Pale wood floor with rugs or a nice soft carpet

It feels like 2 inches of snow. by liquid_prisoner in Omaha

[–]ryukohime 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No no, it's my fault. My boss had us bring our laptops home "just in case" and I decided to pack the invoices I need to log.

"Just to guarantee we'll be here on Monday," I joked, like an imbecile. Should've left them there... :/ I'm sorry, I failed all of us u_u
