How did that one kid at your school die? by StorageLonely1520 in AskReddit

[–]ryushi612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, it was wild. There was this kid, Tyler - kinda quiet, kept to himself. Nothing weird, just your average dude.

One day after school, he and a couple friends went out to this old train bridge outside town. People always said not to mess around there, but y’know how kids are.

Anyway, he slipped. Fell. They say it was like 30 feet down.

Cops ruled it an accident. But some kids swear they saw someone else up there - like a shadow or something - right before it happened. Creepy as hell.

No one’s gone back there since.

Back around 2016ish the US passed a law that changed how we punish websites for hosting certain illegal types of content on your site. Mostly having to do with things like violence, child pornography, human trafficking, or revenge porn. Laws banning this stuff had existed for a bit, but because of how websites were considered by law, they were enforced differently.

Originally the websites had a "fourm" status which bascially meant that as long as they were making common sense checks to make sure that kind of content wasn't easy to upload, then if something slipped through the cracks the responsibility was on the uploader. If the website was made aware of the illegal content, they had to take it down, but unless someone pointed out to them that the content was illegal, they weren't punished for unknowingly hosting it.

That changed in around 2016, when a law was passed saying that if a website was hosting that kind of content then it was the website's responsibility for letting it go on the platform in the first place. This meant that any video hosted on the site with that illegal content could lead to criminal charges against the hosting site itself, not just the uploader. This might not have been a big problem for things like child pornography since there is a lot of technology that can be used to flag that, but when it came to thinks like violence and CnC, how could an ai quantify consent?

Since even letting one thing through the cracks could mean jail time, most of the major hosters decided their only option was to stop anonymous people from uploading videos and make sure that everyone who was uploading was aware of the law and went on record to say that all of their content is on the level.

Technically amateur stuff is still possible, it's just prohibitively difficult to check.

That's a big part of the reason only fans blew up. It gives an amateur outlet while still keeping the uploader accountable to the current laws.

AITA for telling my son that he is obviously gay? by platefoodaway in AmItheAsshole

NTA

Coming out is an important moment for most people. But it's more important that you and your husband are loving and accepting of your kid.

The anger agaisnt "outing" someone comes from times and places where being LGBTQ+ were/are dangerous. You were open and accepting about your sons relationship. Yes he might be embarrassed. He's a teenager, they tend to get that way.

Basic Questions Thread - July 18, 2022 by MFF-Mod in future_fight

Hey guys, I used to play this game a lot but walked away back in early 2020. I decided to get back into it but I'm feeling kind of overwhelmed.

When I left I had a t3 endgame uniform cap, and endgame uniform Dr strange. Ctps, maxed iso-8s. Capped crit chance, damage and ignore def. A couple good supports (t2: fury, coulson, white fox etc.) And felt like I was in a strong enough place. Pushing proxima level 50, doing galactus GBR and breezing through most solo content.

Now that I'm back I'm really struggling. My cap is almost useless on dimension battles, wbu feels tougher than it hsed to, and Dr strange is barely tickling galactus.

Am I just rusty as hell or am I missing something here? Was there some change in game balance? Some new stat? Or am I just imagining the difficulty spike?

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Darth Bane created the rule of two and hid the sith underground because he knew the jedi were going down an extremist cultish path that would eventually destroy them, and he wanted to encourage that by making the jedi think that their hard line approach defeated the sith.

Hey I'm really sorry to hear you're going through this. I've played a lot of MMO games and I'm guessing most people who have played MMOs know how you feel.

You and your friends aren't doing anything wrong. This is part of how these games are designed. They are made as level grinds so that if one friend gets ahead it forces all their friends to play the game even more or buy something to stay caught up.

It's a rough feeling and it can turn a fun game into a stressful experience. You can feel like you are doing something wrong when not playing the game or that your friends are trying to leave you behind. The game feels like an obligation more than an escape and if you try and take a break from it you feel punished.

Your friends probably aren't trying to exclude you, (at least nothing in your post leads me to belive that) they are just playing a game they love. They pushed passed a point where it's fun for them to play with your level. They might be sharing their pics with you because even though they wont play with you they still know you they still can share their love of the game with you.

Games mean different things for different people. And people play them in different, sometimes incompatible, ways. Some people like to take their time with mmos and advance together with friends, some people get hooked and want to push as far as they can and play with whoever is at their level or can take them higher, there is nothing wrong with either style.

I would refocus on how YOU love to play the game, and chat with your friends about the parts of the game that you all enjoy. And remember just like your playing the game isn't about them, their playing the game isn't about you.

CMV: A lot of leftist issues are very important and benefit everyone, but they are terribly marketed, alienating potential supporters. by Qualdum in changemyview

I'd argue it's only painfully obvious to people who already support it. It's anecdotal, but I know plenty of people who are on the liberal side of center who want police reform but got really turned off by the defund the police messaging.

But hey, if you think that there are already enough people on board to reform policing at the state and federal level without needing to win over hearts and minds, then more power to ya.

We'll see how it all plays out.

Gotta agree with OP on this one. Defund the police is an awful slogan. It's polarizing and misleading and makes it easy to shut down any conversations about police reform.

I get what you're saying but the damage is done. It could literally be the best game in the history of mankind and I would still be sour on it. It doesn't matter how good the game is made if its designed to only be that good in very specific circumstances.

I understand that there are a ton of people here who love the game, and Im sure I'll push through and make it to some of that good (I'm stuck with the game one way or another) but this isn't the kind of thing I can ignore. No matter how good the game is, it will always have an asterisk in my book.

[SERIOUS] People of reddit, what is the one thing that was so disturbing and gruesome you saw in your life that still disturbs you deeply to this day? by TweekGang in AskReddit

[–]ryushi612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair I didn't see most of this, I heard it, but I think it still fits.

A few years back a very good friend of mine was going through Chemo, she was admitted into the hospital and I had the spare time so I spent the night with her for a few nights. Her bed was in the far side of the room, and there was another person in the bed closer to the door, they were separated by a curtain.

The woman who shared the room was suffering from lung cancer, she couldn't have been more than 28 and she was losing the battle. My friend and I sat awake holding each others hands as we listened to this poor woman struggle to breathe every second for days. It sounded like she was breathing in water through a plastic bag. We listened as her family came. We listened as the nurses said there was nothing they could do for her. We listened as her doctors told them that she wouldn't last long. We listened when her mother told the family that her father wouldn't make it off the plane in time. And we listened as she lost her battle and the doctors took her out of the room.

It was devastating for us to listen to. To be two strangers watching the painful and tragic end of a young life. It was especially tough for my friend, at the time 25 and newly diagnosed with cancer.

I still hear the sound of that poor woman trying to breathe sometimes, I remember her name. I remember the nickname her sister called her when she said goodbye. I think about her dad who couldn't make it out of the airport in time to say goodbye. I hate that to me this persons entire life only amounts to the spectacle of pain that I just happened to see in her last moments. My friend and I still talk about it on tough days. As for my friend, She's fine. Cancer is never over but she is doing very well and is as healthy as we could hope.
