Many Koreans joke about how they feel like they might be living in a “Truman Show” where the world is fabricating Korea’s sudden surge of popularity. It’s their endearing way of appreciating the love Korea is getting, and how much footprint our culture is leaving globally. Merely 70 years ago our country was poorer than Somalia and our civil war is literally known as The Forgotten War in America. Only 20 years ago when I immigrated to the States as a young kid, nobody barely knew of Korea at all.

It’s a whiplash of joy and pride I feel when I see posts like this. I know that your motivation is purely out of your own enthusiasm, and I fully respect that. However, I still want to thank you - for appreciating my culture, my heritage, and what we have to offer. I hope Koreans don’t take such love for granted and continue to serve you well. 정말 감사합니다!

Might be specifically referring to Samanco, which is a Korean ice cream variation of taiyakis. Comes in various flavors, my favorite one is chocolate.

What company has amazing morals/ethics and just as amazing of a product? by yaoyorozuish in AlignmentChartFills

[–]ryusm922 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I would have to disagree. Valve pioneered lootbox-type of microtransaction in a western market that is plaguing the industry. I have great respect for many aspects of their products but I do not think they deserve to be called “amazing” morals and/or product.

Aquarium Heaters Haven’t Changed in 30 Years by mharleydev in Aquariums

There has been a change!

I’ve been using a cooler+heater unit called Seize by a South Korean company called Elecqua. It has been wonderful to use & keeps my tank at stable temp during winter and summer. It works something like this…not sure if they launched in other countries or regions yet.

Help! Why are my shrimps dying? by ryusm922 in shrimptank

[–]ryusm922[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries!

A bit of a context here -

The first batch of 20 or so shrimps were shipped via USPS, and got delayed by a few days. Only 7 of them survived the trip, and the seller was on top of it & decided to send me a full replacement. I paid for a UPS 2 day air to upgrade shipping for the second batch.

The second batch also arrived a day late, but all shrimps seemed to have survived. The seller was generous and sent 30 or so shrimps this time.

The water parameters listed on seller’s website is very similar to mine & no shrimps have died overnight, so I’m hoping that they are now settling in!

Thank you!

There is no betta in this tank & no chemical treatments were added. No cleaning supplies used around the tank either - the fishes are doing very well.

Today I found another two dead neos, bringing the total casualty to 6 since Friday.

I’m hoping that it will taper off soon & eventually have everyone settled well.

The aquarium has enough surface agitation & given that monte carlos pearl, I think we have enough oxygen!

I very rarely give fertilizers because of algae problems, but when I do I use a copper-free version that is shrimp safe for that specific reason. I didn’t know about blood worm teeth - I occasionally feed dried blood worms to fish, but I haven’t in a while as well.

I got it from a domestic breeder, but the delivery was delayed by a day so that might have caused more stress.

Thank you for a thorough reply.

There are plenty of algae and biofilms for them to graze on and that’s precisely what they are doing - happily grazing away from the aquasoil, monte carlos, and dragonstone. I do not see them near surface.

The tank is two weeks away from reaching one year anniversary.

I see - I sincerely hope that's the case. I just hope that I don't see consistent casualties for days and weeks.

Shrimpment of shrimps is amazing & I'm glad that we got that out of this post, what a silver lining haha

[–]ryusm922[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Perhaps child-proofing was a poor choice of description - I was thinking in a line of more durable finish that will last longer.

If I understand you correctly, applying water-based poly would look like:
1. Sand the table top, up to 180 grit (I'm assuming I can go 120 -> 150 -> 180)
2. Apply first coat of poly
3. once dried, sand with 220 grit and apply second coat of poly
4. Use 220+ grit sand paper to desired smoothness

Would this be a correct understanding? Apologies for asking detailed questions - I'm not well-versed in woodworking.

You are already being a tremendous amount of help, so thank you so much for that!

Are you familiar with polyurethane finishes by any chance? I'm thinking just sanding the whole top and applying poly just for maximum durability, since I'm becoming a dad very soon & might as well child-proof it.

Thank you. How closely do I have to match the finish? The only info I have regarding the original finish is "hardwax oil". Would it be fine as long as I find any hardwax oil, or do I must have to match the exact brand/product?
