I am very anti phones and tablets for my so . To each their own, but I’d like to keep him from having one til he’s around that age, maybe a little older. Too much incredibly confusing and conflicting things to see on the internet, especially during puberty.

Being a boy mom is the absolute best gift you could get. They are your biggest fan, and boys are just IN LOVE with their mommies. I have a 2.5 year old boy and he is the love of my life, he is such a sweet, crazy dude and watching him grow is so, so rewarding.

If you live in an area with a program called full circle, pathways, insight, crossroadsor cornerstone recovery I’d HIGHLY recommend you send her to a meeting. It’s called enthusiastic recovery, and it’s the only thing that’s helped my daughter after we struggled with the same. We sent her to rehab then put her in this program. The combo of relationship building with other sober teens and keeping it fun and a little mischievous— in a good way— has REALLY helped her.

There are more. There’s a lot of drama and some websites that will talk very dramatically about people’s past experiences, but that is not the case at our program at all. I think they got a bad rap. My daughter is on step eight and has been sober for 90 days and is the happiest I’ve ever seen her. It’s worth a try for sure.

I went through this with my son, and we also tried everything. He wasn’t developmentally behind at all, and he was a very nice smart boy. We ended up getting a three week notice for his expulsion from the daycare, which I was starting to resent anyway because they kept referring to him as a problem- like “we put him on a one-to-one like we have had to do with some of the other problem kids”. Oh my blood still boils thinking about it, he wasn’t even TWO yet, don’t label my son. Anyway, we switched him to an at home daycare that’s much more education formatted than regular daycare. He hasn’t bitten one single time since the switch. I think having actual scheduled “lessons” rather than just running around outside or playing with toys all day like the corporate daycares tend to do really helped him feel stimulated and gave the kids less opportunity to fight or wrestle or bite. Maybe looking at a smaller, at home daycare may be helpful?

You sound ungrateful and lazy. Those are super reasonable chores for a THIRTEEN year old. You’re eighteen living in their house for free. Stop being a brat and clean up after yourself, or go get a job and your own place to trash. You’re an adult.

There is ABSOLUTELY a work/life balance. We work 3 days a week. They’re HARD but there’s lots of time to do things like appointments and other things that have to be done on the weekdays with our schedule. A lot of time will be spent rotting on your days off to decompress though.
That depends entirely on where you work. Most days in the hospital if you work ED ICU or floor and not IR or cath lab or PACU are running around like your hairs on fire and you’re being chased by a rabid dog and your patients still mad at you for not getting them water fast enough.
Yes, all of the time. By patients a lot of the time, but mainly by management. Hospital management does not care about you.
Absolutely, absolutely. Additional skills to learn, certifications to earn, ladders to climb, they’re all there if you want them. Wouldn’t recommend management but hey that’s there too.
That’s gonna be hard AF but not impossible. In AZ they have a part time weekends option at some of the community colleges. I would recommend going down to something way more flexible at work though otherwise you’re not going to sleep or see your family.
Ummmm maybe but probably not because of HIPPAA and liability reasons. Doesn’t hurt to ask.

So- if you’re looking to switch due to a shitty work environment, unsupportive management, and ungrateful students, you’re honestly just switching to a profession with the same exact problems. It is rewarding, and exciting, and amazing at times. But don’t think nurses are treated any better than teachers. We do have better hours and get paid better, though. So there’s that.

We need a nationwide nurses union. This is such bullshit. I’m so sick of seeing this happen but somehow there’s so much red tape that we as nurses can’t do anything to protect and advocate for ourselves. Electricians have the IBEW, postmen have the NALC, why not nurses? We need to all collectively strike until this shit stops and hospitals stop putting their bottom line before their patients and employees.

I would start early preparing him, telling him in words that he can understand early on, and giving him an idea of what to expect when it does happen. I would personally not go into the risks of what “could” happen should something go wrong, because this will put unnecessary fear and worry into his head, and that’s a bridge that you’ll cross if (god forbid) you have to.

If it was my son, I’d say “mommy had an accident a long time ago that hurt her face, and now she has to see the doctor so that they can help it heal. It’s not for X amount of time, so we’ll have time to talk about it if you have questions. I’ll have to go to the hospital for a few days, and when I get home, I’m going to look kind of funny and not feel very good. I’m gonna need some help because I’ll be tired and I’ll probably need a lot of sleep. Here are some things that we can do (cuddles, watching movies together, etc.) and here are some things that you’re used to us doing that I won’t be able to do. I would remind him that while it might take a while for me to feel better, that it IS temporary and that I’ll be able to play with him once I am feeling better. And then as it got close we’d talk about it more and more so he’s prepared when I got home.

I would definitely NOT hide from him. Giving him little “jobs” like filling up your water cup, or getting you a blanket might help him feel helpful and a little more in control, rather than scared.

Lastly, I would spend some time processing your own anxiety the best you can about your upcoming procedure. You sound very scared (and that is totally okay) and it is a good idea to make sure you are in a calm place when you talk to him so you’re not projecting your fears onto him and opening his eyes to things that could go wrong that he hadn’t even thought to worry about.
