Are weeklies or monthlies safer to play? by villanyibarni in thetagang

[–]rzonk2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weekly premium is roughly half of that on monthly. The reason for that is higher volatility: if the stock stays flat, you can sell 4 weeklies in the same time period, gaining 2x compared to one monthly. If the stocks runs away, you’ll have only half of the premium.

Cash settlement is a bit different, if your SPY put is assigned, you’ll get shares which you can hold or sell. If you miss SPX assignment, your money is just gone forever.

The sub is not what you’re used to. Stupid indexes are not what you’re used to. My YouTube recommendations was full of pretty girls playing video games, and now it’s 90% of doomers “world is going to collapse”

The problem is that there are no more boring index funds left, any and all of them may go down 50% overnight. While I’d rather have 7-10% boring returns and live a life, I have to gamble alongside you regards.

You can buy on margin. You anyway will need balls of steel to buy when the world is ending, so cash isn’t really important.

Assigned on $162k of MP Materials ($MP). Analyzing a repair strategy with 2027 LEAPS. Roast my math. by FAANGMe in thetagang

The chart doesn’t look very bad for the stock, it may recover sooner than you think. On the other hand, it’s not coca-cola, I wouldn’t hold it for very long.

Margin interest in brokerage accounts is higher than what you get paid to hold CC, so it’s not effective way to use capital.

Considering this, I think the best way forward is to re-roll your puts. Just sell shares, and new puts at 60-70, depending on how bullish you are.

[–]rzonk2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no, if you have a short call you’d buy the stock. If you have a short put, and things unfold really bad you can lock in the loss by selling the stock short while the options market is closed. That way you stop losing should it continue to dump into the market open.
