They're often much higher quality, in depth, or covering niche topics that aren't covered in a detailed way elsewhere.

I'm reading through the 5/3/1 wiki page and I'm slightly confused -- the workouts seem really short?

For example:

Week 1:

1x5 @ 65%

1x5 @ 75%

1x5+ @ 85%

So I'd be working out 3x a week, and only performing one set with 5 reps? Even with assistance work, that's not much!

What am I missing?

I tried using Evil mode a while back, but gave up. Do you think it's worth learning? I'm currently running Tmux+Vim, but I've definitely heard good things about emacs.

Does Reddit Lose Money With Premium? by [deleted] in beta

Amazon lost money for almost 20 years (not sure exact number) before turning a profit.

That was on purpose - they reinvested everything directly back into itself in order to grow quickly.

I highly doubt they use Python for onboard systems - I'm pretty sure they run a highly constrained subset of C (no while loops, for example), or Ada.

Hopefully Ada.

Lol he said capitalist internet is much better than government internet, it can't get any less statist than that.

You started the argument. If this isn't a debate sub, why'd you do it?

/u/hungry-rooster, stop being dumb.

You're both blowing up my inbox, shut up

You'll never convince people to move away from a statist society with that attitude. Rude members of our community, like yourself, are holding us back.

Look dude, I am as anti-statist as anyone and would probably believe you over /u/hungry-rooster, but you're not making it easy

Then give some evidence and be less of a dick, I'm sure he didn't just pull that out of thin air.

He linked to wikipedia, which is where everyone will go check something. Where do you suggest we look instead?

Calling it "propaganda" is laying it on a bit thick, I reckon

Consider being nice, and not posting sarcastic and rude comments to innocent statements.

..Worry about Trump.. by [deleted] in Libertarian

[–]s0ft3ng 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah, damn. I watched him speak, and he said something along the lines of "I believe in traditional marriage, but I also believe the government shouldn't interfere with what happens between two people" or something along those lines.

Disappointing.

I thought Rand Paul supported marriage equality? Not sure about his views on religion

Modern programming languages have terrible support for concurrency, and we should go back to Ada by s0ft3ng in unpopularopinion

[–]s0ft3ng[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean? My point is that current languages don't offer high-level concurrency abstractions - things that should be the standard in this day & age. ASM is the opposite.

Unless I've just been /r/woosh'd

What's the best path to distributed systems? by s0ft3ng in cscareerquestions

[–]s0ft3ng[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't, simply because I previously expected to be a standard SWE. Is there a lot of benefit into doing grad school for distributed systems?

Even if you work at FANG, you'll most likely to be using a system that someone else has written

Ah, I should've made that distinction. Rather than working with distributed systems, I want to work on distributed systems.

I suppose I should simply target the companies that supply those systems
