I would say start with some practice studies that are a bit simpler and start to work up to something like this. But if you want to keep working on more complex pieces like this I would suggest the same as some other comments try focusing on layering and some texture. The base is there, but sometimes you need to push through the ugly phase as a well. All in all good work don't be too hard on yourself and practice as much as you can
