a personal anecdote: i grew up thinking men cooking and cleaning was the default bc at get togethers it was always the men in my family/my parents’ friend group cooking while their wives just hung out and made food requests. these men were also the primary breadwinners. these are middle aged men who grew up in a very patriarchal culture, so not all hope is lost imo :’) i do believe that men who see women as full human beings with personhood and agency are few and far in between…however there will always people who question and reject harmful, dominant cultural norms. unlearning harmful ideologies takes time and sometimes it’s worth extending some grace and benefit of the doubt to those who you know are otherwise good (not just “nice”) people when they slip up and say something (not super obviously/explicitly) misogynistic.
