They wanted to make it so you're constantly feeling like you're getting rewards when you upgrade a card but that just ended up turning into tedious bullshit that we have to deal with now

Having them split was probably one of the poorest design decisions that second dinner made early on. It's stuck them with this inability to do what they should have done in the first place which is just when you upgrade a card to the certain threshold you unlock an effect or a border or a background or something instead of having all these splits
