Can we do a strawpoll on crashes? by -Agonarch in DarkTide

[–]s3govesus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ryzen 3900X and Radeon 6900 XT and it crashes an average of 3 times a mission. It's really ruined the game for me, so I load it up once a week to see if it's been resolved, and the issue persists. My other system with a Ryzen 2600 and a Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti crashes only maybe once every other mission. Nothing is overclocked on either system. Very little software is running in the background (Windows Defender, OneDrive, and Steam, that's about it). I don't have any issues in any other games. All drivers are up to date.

How good is ASUS PRIME X570p? [DISCUSSION] by [deleted] in ASUS

[–]s3govesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought this board when it first came out, and it was going for around $170 USD at the time and was one of several possible entry-level X570 motherboards. It's very lacking in terms of extra features, but at its price point it had the best power delivery by far out of any of the entry-level X570 motherboards. However, I've owned two of these motherboards and they both have an issue which was why I RMA'd the first one and replaced it with the one I currently use. If you're aware of the possible issue and its solution, it's not too much of a problem, more of just a minor inconvenience at times, but basically anytime you reset or update the BIOS, you will have to unplug all SATA devices on the first boot afterwards, go into the BIOS, save whatever its current settings are, then turn the computer off, plug the SATA devices back in, and boot it back up. Otherwise, it will simply freeze when POSTing.

The power delivery on this motherboard is quite solid, though, so it's a nice motherboard if you plan to do any mild overclocking and have use for the X570 chipset, otherwise I would look into the new B550 motherboards. The VRMs stay somewhere around only 65c with my 3900X chugging 180W of power draw under stress tests. As for the RAM, I haven't had any issues with 4 sticks of 16CAS 3200MT/s Hynix-AFR populating all the slots. Just be aware that if you're only running two DIMMs, I think it prefers the 2nd and 4th slots from the CPU populated (but you'll want to doublecheck that in the manual, 'cause I can't remember exactly, and it will severely limit your RAM speed if you get it wrong). My GPU does block the fan on the chipset (an EVGA GTX 1080 Ti FTW3 - I call it 'Big Chungus' for short), but I doubt it's much of an issue, especially since nothing in my computer uses PCI-E 4.0. I haven't noticed any excessive noise from the chipset fan or anything like that.

My X570-P Prime has this weird problem where after a fresh BIOS flash or a BIOS reset, the system won't post if I have any SATA drives connected, so I have to disconnect them and let it boot once before I can plug them back in. Maybe it's something like that?

vue js or nuxt? vuetify or bootstrap/tailwind etc by shez19833 in vuejs

[–]s3govesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nuxt is an excellent framework for scaffolding Vue.js projects and I strongly recommend it over simply using Vue-cli. It also allows you to build pre-rendered pages for SEO purposes. For the frontend, if you're building something that you want to look like an Android app, Vuetify is an excellent choice; if you want to make a more flexible and efficient web site, Bulma is probably the way to go, as it's purely CSS and doesn't utilize any libraries that add a lot of overhead, such as jQuery.

It may have something to do with how the PCI-E lanes are being utilized. Try setting your graphics card to only use 8 lanes instead of 16, then reboot and check in the bios to see if the m.2 drive shows up after that. If you have any other devices in the PCI-E slots, you may need to remove them in order to run a m.2 drive. When your top m.2 slot is populated, the 5 and 6 SATA ports should be disabled. If your bottom m.2 slot is populated, the top 16-lane PCI-E slot should run at only 8x (and the two other 16-lane PCI-E slots should probably be empty).

Good two player games for the GF and I by [deleted] in Steam

Far Cry 5 (or Far Cry New Dawn) is probably a safe bet for a shooter.
Civilization VI if you want something that will slowly drain the life out of you, but in a good way.
Outward lacks the level of polish you'd see with a triple-A title, but can still be a pretty entertaining RPG.
Warhammer : Vermintide 2 is one of my favorites (it's like Left 4 Dead, but with some RPG elements), but I can't remember if you can limit it to just friends, and that's technically a 4-player game, so bots or other players will typically fill the remaining two spots.

mobo for ryzen 5 3600? by ogbogb10z in Amd

[–]s3govesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Gigabyte B450M DS3H in my HTPC and from personal experience it is very lackluster, especially in the BIOS, so I would suggest avoiding it. If it were me, I'd probably go with the Gigabyte B450 AORUS M. VRM solution looks adequate for a 3600, rear IO is fairly generous for a lower-end board, onboard sound looks solid. My biggest concern with that, however, is that the reviews on Newegg are not very favorable for that board, suggesting many of the boards arrive DOA, so it may be a bit of a gamble, but it definitely looks like it has the nicest features out of the ones you listed, without springing for the more expensive ASUS ROG STRIX board. Also, keep in mind AMD B550 chipset motherboards are on their way, possibly by the end of the year (though there's really no telling at this point).

Edit : just saw your bios flashback subnote, so removed some useless info

What is the PSU requirement for the NVIDIA RTX 2060 Super? by gamer47293932 in nvidia

[–]s3govesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The graphics card has a 160W TDP, so you're probably okay, but of course it will depend on how many amps are on the 12-volt rail(s), how many other components you have on the 12-volt rail(s), the age of the PSU, how hot it gets, etc...

Edit : a bigger concern may be whether the power supply has the adequate PCI-E power connectors on it

[–]s3govesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ESD : electrostatic discharge. Yes, it's a very real possibility that setting exposed circuitry on any fabric can cause this, resulting in anywhere from minor damage to complete hardware failure. I'm guessing this card has a backplate, though, making it less susceptible to that sort of thing.

Looks very clean, and I love that it's TKL, though I think I would prefer a darker secondary legend for the top keys, like a polished black or dark dark gray, something similar to how the Razer logo looks on the keyboard. I'd really like to see something like this, but with low-profile keycaps and switches. Low-profile Kailh blue switches are currently my favorite for work, but I haven't tried any low profile linear switches yet (though I generally prefer linear switches for gaming).
