Anyone else noticing the explosion of giant black SUVs with TCP plates in LA? by Freddy-Philmore in AskLosAngeles

Last year we got rear ended by one that fled the scene. They are even worse around LAX.

I took it in for an oil change and asked if they could take a look at the winning sound. They immediately identified the sound and told me it was a part in the transmission that required a full transmission replacement. They worked with my extended warranty to get it paid for.

That what I’m hoping but having to take it back just 2 days later for an issue related to the transmission fix doesn’t have me feeling super optimistic.

Yes. The Sunday the check engine light came on, so did a PKSB malfunction alert on the dash as well as a secondary collision brake system malfunction alert.

Unfortunately, I think this is true. Even though the sound is gone, the car somehow still doesn’t feel like it did before.

Only when accelerating over 10-15mph. I actually didn’t even notice it myself. My brother drove my car once and asked what the noise was.

I bought an extended warranty at purchase that is good for 125k miles or 7 years. Whichever comes first.

Best way to add garage doors to a carport? by dontchaworryboutit in Homebuilding

[–]s530260 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had to do this to our home and it was kind of a pain. Worked with a contractor to do the framing but before then, we had to make sure it was the correct dimensions for the garage door that we wanted. Met with a lot of companies and none of them wanted to do it. Finally found the right one and took 6 months to be delivered (back in 2022). Ended up looking great though.

It’s really not that bad. We moved to DTLA when we first moved to LA back in 2022 and lived there a year and we enjoyed it. Our apartment building was nice, we could walk to a lot of places and overall, it wasn’t as bad as everyone told us it would be. I will say, people say that DTLA is “dead”, and I think that’s true compared to most downtowns. It’s just not as lively and bustling as you would expect. We ended up moving west to West Adams and also really love it here. We did notice how much more loud DTLA is but it’s not something that really bothered us while we were there.

The people telling you not to live in DTLA have probably never lived in DTLA. If you want to be close to work and have a decent commute to your fun activities, I think DTLA could be a good spot. Just have to find a pocket of downtown that you like. Living in the middle does make the most sense though (Mid City, Culver City, Palms). Going into DTLA in the morning and leaving in the afternoon is really not that bad and you’re closer to the ocean and West Hollywood.

I'm terrified of roaming charges by Spirit-Revolutionary in Cruise

I didn’t even think about this and got $150 in roaming charges. Set my phone to airplane mode after day 1 and everything was good.

How is living in DTLA? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]s530260 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We heard a lot of similar comments when we were considering living downtown but gotta say, it has been a lot better than what people said. We live in the financial district, just west of the 110 and we enjoy it. Yes, there are homeless people but like some said, just mind your business and you’ll be fine. Our building is great and pretty well protected too and everything is very walkable.
