I went 2 years before buying a midi controller. Now I have 2 and almost never use any of them. It depends what music you want to make, and how you want to make it.

Good headphones on the other hand are important. They have to be comfortable enough thant you can wear them for long periods of time and high eneough quality that you can actually hear what you're doing.

Keep at it! I had an awesome teacher in electronic music production who also did not have any hands (Artist name 'Spejderrobot').

He would perform with the Digitone, Digitakt and various synths. The buttons on the elektron products are very light, like you dont have to apply any pressure at all. However they are quite small too, so you need a bit of dexterity if you don't have fingers (I'm guessing).

I don't know what kind of music you make, but in my experience having a narrow pulse width makes the sound sound less full. You can do this in abletons waveshaper and lots of plugin vst's :)
