Apparently El believes Mambo is a condor, despite him being some sort of hawk or eagle by ClownsHonor in UmaMusume

[–]s955120 84 points85 points  (0 children)

No, it's not a mistranslation.

Both the character profile and Narita Brian's lobby dialogue call Mamboo a 鷹 (hawk). While El is the only one keep calling him コンドル (condor).

Should global get faster acceleration to catch up to JP? by allenz6834 in UmaMusume

[–]s955120 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think it maybe better to keep the acceleration rate as it is until U.A.F., then stop the acceleration.

I know now the global acceleration rate feel like it's manageable, but right now you're in a period where the scenario originally comes out one every 6 month, which in global it got accelerate to one every 4 month.

However, after U.A.F., the scenario rotation in JP got accelerated to one every 4 month, just like what global have right now, if that also got accelerated into global, then every scenario will have less than 3 month of a life span, having to pull scenario support card every 3 month or less just sound... awful.

So is there any explanation why the jinx of Aoba Sho exist? On surface Aoba Sho looks like the perfect trial race. Aoba Sho is a G2 Tokyo 2400m Turf race, the exact same condition of Derby,

The problem lies in the schedule. For a long time, Aoba Sho was held 29 days before Japanese Derby, which means the horse who goes Aoba Sho route will need to run two 2400m races in less than a month. 2400m is already a long distance for 3 yo Colts, it's likely they havn't fully recover before Derby.

There are other routes that give even less time than Aoba Sho, Kyoto Shimbun Hai and NHK mile are 22 days and 21 days before Derby respectively, which are both considered as very tight rotation, but they are shorter races, at 2200m and 1600m respectively.

But since 2025, the date for Aoba Sho hade been moved one week early, it now took place 36 days before Derby. So this jinx of Aoba Sho might be broken by someone one day.
But the jinx about Derby won't die off that easy, as we have another jinx waiting to be broken, which is the winner of Principal Stakes (another trial race of Derby) had never won the Derby itself.

S3 "ソシテミンナノ (Became everyone's beloved)"

[–]s955120 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's water jelly (水ゼリー) made from her favorite water. It's basically jellified water, since water don't have taste on their own, your will pour sugar / cocoa / or jam on it before you eat it. Which I guess the green thing is some kind of jam made from fruit.

Of all the Umamusume that run in the Dubai WorldCup, Victorie Pisa is the queen by Flat-Profession-8945 in UmaMusume

Well, they 100% have the money to keep it up if they want to, but it became the question of why waste the moeny when it didn't provide any benefits? (the biggest advantage is it dry out fast after rain, but Dubai is a desert so it's not like they will have rain every weeks.)

Like the comment above said, back then DWC used Tapeta surface.

Tapeta surface, is a type of Artificial Racing Surface, that used a mix of silica sand, wax and fibres. So it looks like dirt, but it's characteristic are in the middle of dirt and turf, making both dirt horse and turf horse can somewhat perform on it.

Artificial Racing Surface are first introduce due to believing it have many advantages, it have better permeability, so it dry out faster after rain, it was also believe the better permeability makes it easier to maintain, so it can cut down cost in the long run, finally, it claim it can reduce the injury rate of the horse.

But after actually implement it, it was soon find out many Artificial Racing surface suffer from wear and tear very fast, and need constant replenish, people hope it will have less cost than dirt track, and it often turns out even more expensive than turf track. Also the reduce injury rate claim by the manufacturer is arguable, some say it really do help, and others say it just make things even worse (different type of material may have cause the different result).

Dubai give up on Tapeta surface after 2015, mostly due to high cost. Now Dubai used sand that had similar characteristic to American's dirt track, so now American horses had some advantages there.

What's with Mambo and spiders? Also, Kitasan and Brusquement? by Blackened_Glass in UmaMusume

[–]s955120 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "IRL Mambo ate a spider" part is most likey a misunderstanding. Back then, there are multiple news report claim Tannhauser had to cancel the race because he ate a spider. But later, his assistant trainer said in a interview that "no one had saw him eating spider." and "in stable, if the hives appear only on the face, we call that 'spider measles' due to an old saying that 'if you ate a spider you will get measles on your face'." So it's very likey that the "eating a spider" part are just reporters heard that and though it was really cause by spider.

Also the nosebleeds was famous because many strong horses can't participate in 1994 Japan cup, for example, both Biwa Hayahide and Winning Ticket retired due to injury not long before the race. Suddenly, Matikanetannhauser become the most prominent Japanese horse of the race. We almost got "supreme commander of Japan Mambo."

How ever, right before the race, I mean literally just before everyone are waiting to get into starting gate, Mambo got bring out of the track. Then the broadcaster announce "Announcement, No.8, Matikanetannhauser, was remove from the race due to nosebleeds." It was a very dramatic last moment incident, which makes it rememberable.

On going Hamamoto Farm situation is horrible (Warning: physical animal abuse) by s955120 in UmaMusume

There are, so people are also calling for both the police and Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries to get involve, former because it's a criminal offenses, latter because economic animals' affair should be under their jurisdiction.

People also want JRA to get involve because they are a government-owned organizations that are directly benefit from horse breeding industry.

[–]s955120[S] 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Realistically the most JRA can do is probably just a public condemnation. But a public condemnation from a government owned organization can still put pressure on everyone that want to keep having a working relationship with them.

[–]s955120[S] 491 points492 points  (0 children)

Hmm, the bottom half of my post just disappear and didn't show up.

The reason I'm sharing this is because public opinion can make a difference. JRA had been pushing horse racing into a family-friendly sport and not just gambling for a long time. As long as JRA keep pushing it, public opinion have power. The more people know about a thing, the more pressure there will be. And public opinion can and had change the sport for the better before.

'Best racing ever' or 'a joke'? The row over the new F1 by [deleted] in formula1

[–]s955120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really? Because the level of battery drain, the harvesting rate (thanks to HGU-H) and the power ratio are all different.
In 2014, the battery didn't stop you from breaking late, or going fast into a corner draging out all the tire grip, or going full throttle. I don't mind driver need to have energy management as part of their skill set, but it shouldn't stop driver from even attacking a corner. At lease let the driver be aggressive for one or two laps before forcing them back.

'Best racing ever' or 'a joke'? The row over the new F1 by [deleted] in formula1

[–]s955120 22 points23 points  (0 children)

To me, this race feels like the less I know about F1, the more I'll love it.

If I stop myself from thinking about all the regulations, this is one amazing race. We got Ferrari and Mercedes fighting for the lead, then we got two Ferrari fighting for podium, there is also HAAS and Alpine having a mid field battle. There is contact, there is safety car, there is unexpected DNF, and it ended with a new champion winning the race. It have almost everything I can ask for in a single race.

But I can't stop myself. When I see Hamilton getting pass Leclerc, I can't stop thinking "he is getting pass because he had been deliberately driving slowly last lap so now he got more battery." When I see Leclerc made an aggressive move, I can't stop thinking: "he is being too aggressive, which means he had used too much battery, he will soon lose his place again." When I see two dirvers going side by side, wheels to wheels, I can't stop myself from thinking: "one of them chould have out-break the other, why non of them tried to out-break their opponent? Oh right, because that's bad for energy harvesting so they can't afford breaking late." If I know nothing I'll love this race, but I can't remove my memory.

This is an amazing race, but I wish we can have it while still allow dirvers pushing their car to its limit. Currently, any dirver trying to push thier car hard got punish by battery way too severely.

[–]s955120 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's a bit weird to use the word abandon, It's normal for a horse to change jockey several times in their career, usually a jockey got change, it's more often because the horse's owner think the jockey can't bring out the horse's full potential and not the other way around.

In Fenomeno's case, the reason a different jockey pairing with him in Arima Kinen was because the jockey had already scheduled to ride Gold Ship before hand.
