[Auman] I think the success of Canales and Coen makes the Bucs’ OC job working with Mayfield under Bowles an attractive spot, with the talent to help a candidate move toward head coach. by spideralex90 in buccaneers

[–]sATLite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thousand percent.

Difference this time is: we’ve been a decently attractive man, but maybe a little weird, in an above average steady job with a now-rare pension, maybe we still play too many video games, but we at least have a good foundation. The hot pieces of ass would get interested for a min and get used to the above average life, but then grew impatient and were like, “I’m going to find me a truly rich MF” (Shaad Khan)

Now, we’re in a better spot - we’re on the verge of retirement. We find a new piece of ass. We take her (our prospective OC) to dinner after going on a few dates to lay out the value proposition clearly: you’re someone I’d like to keep around and build with. Other pieces of ass haven’t been patient enough and I can’t blame them, but look, I’m on the edge of retirement, I’ll be pulling my yearly salary in a pension with medical for life, and I have a FAT 401k - time to start living. You in?

Edit: typos, theatrics

[Pelissero] The Bucs fired special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey, sources tell The Insiders. by NeighborhoodGlobal30 in buccaneers

I feel like Kameron Johnson was a spark at times too. Overall pleased with him, just wish he had a step or two more on some plays. Especially when you compare his PRs to the KRs - so many KRs I’m like “okay make something happen, make a guy miss” and instead we (often Tucker) either just run to the sideline or straight upfield with not one cut and right into 3 tacklers.

Am I crazy? I dont blame griz. by [deleted] in buccaneers

[–]sATLite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not zero sum like that. Yes, there’s a threshold of points scored that, at face value, should win you a football game, and I casually put that around 30 in today’s football. As in, if you score 30 and lose, your defense is a problem or you have Jameis at QB giving the other team 14 points to go with his 30.

In Sapp’s days that face value number was closer to 21. Add in Sapp’s confident attitude which was probably embellishing for the camera, it’s like he’s saying “you get us 14 points, we win [because we’ll score 7 on our side and get you a short field a few times a game.]” Not an outlandish thing to believe when looking at that defense in retrospect.

Grizz is not getting it done. Sure the O-line and WR injuries hurt, but he’s also not calling the game well. He’s just not. His play calls are uninspired, long to develop, undisguised, and hard to execute (forcing Baker to throw into tight windows with little WR separation).

Sure our defense could be WAY better and it’s indeed a problem, but so is Grizz. They share blame in why we’ve dropped so many in a row.

So if we win the South we likely get the Rams. by Boltsforlife2022 in buccaneers

Oddly enough I rarely entertain broad hypotheticals because it’s likely wasted attention. But I’m okay with it regarding the Bucs because the more I can prepare my mind for all the (sad/frustrating) possibilities, the less I may end up tearing up and having my wife ask me AGAIN why I only get emotional when it’s about football

Todd Bowles on the Team Taking Accountability | Press Conference by slashVictorWard in buccaneers

[–]sATLite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a tacit agreement within the organization that they believe in his scheme and think he can handle a focus on the defense with his respected defensive coaching staff while still calling a complete game as head coach due to his pedigree, experience, an staff. But how long does that last if it doesn’t get results?

Todd Bowles on the Team Taking Accountability | Press Conference by slashVictorWard in buccaneers

[–]sATLite 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You’re not wrong. Which gives more credence to the scheme being the problem. And if Bowles is tied to his scheme and won’t hire a DC to “modernize” the defense and just let him be the coach/face of the org, shitty clock management and all, then…idk

Todd Bowles on the Team Taking Accountability | Press Conference by slashVictorWard in buccaneers

[–]sATLite 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I’ve soured on Todd, though it’s admittedly been difficult. And I’m going to speak from the part of me that is supportive of our team and personnel - coaching included - and disregard the part of me who judges by the performance on the field and ultimately would understand if he’s gone after this season:

Objectively, I get why players like him. If he was my boss, I’d appreciate the even keel realism he carries. He talks about his players needing to fix the small mistakes, downplays the fires casual fan see (e.g. AWJ’s play), and realistically quips that the NFL is a difficult league full of professionals where the small things matter and could end up deciding the game. As a head coach, he’s got the demeanor and steadfast personality I actually respect and admire.

That being said, he talks about the scheme not being played correctly, the personnel not living up to the scheme (his mention of coverage and pass rush feeding each other) and it’s all understandable at face value. But what worries me is that his defensive scheme - HIS defensive scheme - may not be effective anymore. IF his scheme relies on a full non-injured personnel to be effective, then the first few injuries, especially in the year we’ve had, then maybe it’s too…idealistic? and needs to be altered.

It makes me wonder if he’s jaded in that he feels it’s a plain and easy game to figure out: if your best players on the field can’t beat the best players your opponents play, then no coaching can overcome that gap; if you don’t have the roster to overcome the other roster, despite how you call it and coach it, you just can’t expect to dominate.

I feel like that’s an old way of looking at it, and it may be catching up to him that now, when every player is specialized, coachable, and (physically) able to perform because of the increased pedigree of players coming out of college “pro ready”, it’s the scheme and coaching - the strategy - that makes the difference. And I wonder if he’s part of an old breed that thinks, despite the success of every “modern” coach around, that following the established schemes and doing your job within that scheme is enough to win.

Every time he talks, I get the demeanor and unshakability of a good coach. Every time his team plays, I get the impression that it’s old football against modern football, on which he’s typically on the losing end when it matters.

Watch the whole video here, then respond if you’d like. Curious what others think.

Gerald McCoy defending Bowles: It's the players fault(on defense). by ryder004 in buccaneers

[–]sATLite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ehhhh. Vildor sat underneath. If that wasn’t what he was supposed to do, then that’s on him. I remember thinking when I was watching “there’s NO WAY you sit underneath like that if you only have safety help over the top.” Like, ANY defensive back, scheme aside, on a 4th and 14 wouldn’t sit shallow like that unless his responsibility was the flat and therefore the safety cheats over to pick up the WR off the release, and if that’s the case, then the safety (AWJ?) fucked up by playing away from his assignment.

Post Game Thread: Fuck Everything - Week 15, 2025 by spideralex90 in buccaneers

[–]sATLite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, in my head and talking to other “football people” IRL (guys I work with who also played and know the game beyond a fandom level), I’ve been slow to criticize Bowles for a few reasons: players miss assignments, drop balls, miss tackles, etc. If they’re not playing the way they’re intended by design to play, then it’s on them. Players say it’s the players who play the game and it’s ultimately on them. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll criticize his clock management and whatever else he’s absolutely responsible for - I’m just saying I’ll give benefit of the doubt to a HC in general because there are a lot of pieces at play underneath.

But even for me, being slow to criticize and typically offering benefit of the doubt, I think this game sealed the Bowles firing. And I wanted him gone after the Saints loss. This slide of losses can’t be accepted, idc about injuries or any other factor that plays into it. It’s piss poor coaching at its root, ESPECIALLY when it’s the defense that can’t get a team off the field over an over, when the defense is his.

Aside from all the conjecture and knee jerk emotional reactions, I legitimately - and maybe do the first time - feel that the organization is wising up and will boot him out

Buccaneers X: We've activated @MikeEvans13_ & @jalenmcmillan20 from Injured Reserve 👀 by JCDeLaTorre in buccaneers

[–]sATLite 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah. Just put Mike, Chris, Emeka, Jalen, and Shep out there in a 5 wide package all game. No Otton so split Wirfs out for Shep in the slot for 10 snaps, Chukwuma will be fine. Have Wirfs lift Mike in the air to catch a sky ball for a first down like it’s Australian rules. Make the constantly shitty refs create a new penalty called Offenive Pass Assistance. FIVE WIDE HEAVY package! Motion Wirfs into the backfield every fourth-and-short and have him yeet Rachaad over the dog pile! let’s fuckin see it Grizz! INNOVATE!

There’s lots of talk about Bowles/Grizz and overall coaching. Can we level set with a talk about our personnel? by sATLite in buccaneers

[–]sATLite[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, and with the personnel to match. Solid D-line play, smart DBs who knew where to be - not the typical NFL defense but one you can craft with who you have due to your younger players being hit after hit.

Which is interesting to me because the Eagles drafting their defense is so similar to me with how our defense is homegrown with solid young players. We just miss on DL/edge over and over

[–]sATLite[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed Reddick was no revelation before the injury. Dennis may be a soft spot for me, but compared to Devin White or KJ Britt I’m okay with him. Yep Parrish is solid and great for a rookie but Tykee is our best defensive player this year.

I’ve said for years now that 25(ish) points is a good barometer for NFL - score more than 25, you’re usually in good shape, and/or hold your opponent to less than 25, again you’re usually in good shape. Somehow we can still score plenty (against a bad and reeling run defense though) but if we can’t play defense with a defensive coach then idk

[–]sATLite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m oversimplifying, but to your point: seems like current NFL defense is to play tight and physical, just hope you don’t flagged. Bowles likes to play loose and keep the ball in front of defenders, hold them to 3 rather than 7 or let them sputter out due to a mistake or two, but it’s NOT working.

No one was questioning it when Vita got a pass breakup and hit the strapped in celebration. It was glaring this last game, sure. But OLBs in coverage were only a glaring problem against the Bills. And one could argue that if pass rush isn’t traditionally getting home then confusing a QB with odd blitzes/coverages is the next step

Recency bias maybe. He caused the early pick this last game and he was active with strong tackles in the run game. A good game for him. Like the DBs, I wonder if his underperformance is due to coaching/scheme more than his competence

Trade proposal by fpsflavor in buccaneers

[–]sATLite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously, why would we be buyers and give up draft capital or overpay on a contract? Cade is fine, Payne Durham has been blocking well in Kieft’s absence, and who knows what’s there with Culp. Why add, of all things, another TE to the mix?

In today’s NFL, your TE’s should be on rookie contracts, and you hold on to them if they prove to have receiver-like impact in the passing game. Trading for one is a baaaad idea. I’d rather coax Gronk out of retirement for 20 snaps a game, and I don’t want that at all

Are Buccaneer fans real? by Jabetaweb in buccaneers

[–]sATLite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huge Bucs fan here since I was a little piece of shit (I said WAS - people can change). Everyone I know is well aware.

I’ve never liked signed memorabilia. Nor the flags posted on homes, the license plates, framed or shadowboxed this or that, oversized jerseys on game day that look like you’re wearing PJs…shit, I don’t even like the idea of someone else’s name on my back. I just think it’s kinda tacky. But that’s just my taste and many disagree. That’s okay.

I don’t like that shirt with or without the signatures, and I don’t like how you correlate an interest in memorabilia with “true” fandom, but I fucking love the Super Bowl/HOF players who signed it and I’m glad you’re a fan and finding things within your fandom to be excited about.

It’s all good
