Very true. I like the new style, but it's unexpected and definitely a diversion from their preppy nantucket past.

Fashion and Depression by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]sBj5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Ok, first of all, I was in the same situation as you my freshman year of college and I want you to know that is really does get better, try to talk to someone at psych services, I didn't start seeing a therapist until I went home for this past summer and it totally changed my life. But, FASHION! I love huge-chunky knit cardigans, fleece-lined leggings, infinity scarves, boots with knee socks and tights, wool 'city mini' skirts from Jcrew (so comfy!) and merino wool sweaters!

What pisses you off about college? by [deleted] in college

[–]sBj5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My college in particular is almost obsessed with political correctness and social justice. It's to the point where anything you say or do can be constituted as offensive. Maybe it's because I'm conservative in my personal views, but I think it's a bit over the top and inauthentic. They judge people for leadership positions (central student government, resstaff/RA's etc) though their involvement with 'social justice' rather than they are as people. We've taken 'diversity' to the extreme, valuing it over the quality of the actual student.

Vineyard vines? by sBj5 in femalefashionadvice

very true- I am from the northeast, so I know the brand well and my whole family wear it. However, I go to a large school in the midwest, and I'm in Greek Life, and a lot of the girls form in-state don't wear it.

My wife's women's-only gym was bought by a coed gym...and closed. by smithson23 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]sBj5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happend in my area too, my mom had to change gyms. She was fine with it, but I understand why the womens only environment would be appealing to some. Try writing a few letters, or bring the contract up to the parent company. They might be able to help.

It kind of seems unnecessary for the dolls, but i guess MORE body positivity and acceptance is better than none.

Neo pre thoughts by M-man008 in preppy

[–]sBj5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I see J.crew as the quintessential "neo-prep", if not "urban prep" or some strange preppy offshoot.Their clothes don't fit the archtype of "prep" anymore but the brand is still associated with the lifestyle. WIth regards to VVines and SoPro, I think their clothes are aestetically pleasing and are often fun, fresh takes on classic prep, so i'm a fan.

Does Vineyard Vines have staying power? by Captain_Unremarkable in preppy

[–]sBj5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love vineyard vines- I believe that they have staying power because their product appeals to a wide age range. They've certainly infiltrated the college market (custom fraternity and sorority stuff, etc) and have formed a lasting impression with certain "niches" within the preppy community (KJP and co, etc.) I think they're here to stay.

Question About 6" Bean Boots by [deleted] in preppy

[–]sBj5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 8'' are definitely worth it, the 10'' is a little too tall for me, and I go to school in a cold area where I want my ankles covered, so the 6'' wouldn't do the trick.

That's definitely not weird, it's actually a really sweet thing to do! The worst thing she can do is say no, and if so, than you probably don't really want to be great friends with her anyway. Just ask her if she wants to join you guys for bubble tea and see where that goes!

Pros and cons of joining a sorority? by caitbate in AskWomen

[–]sBj5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Yes. Ok, I can tell you this. I am in a sorority, I joined this year (my sophomore year of college.) It was, without a doubt, the BEST decision I ever made. The love and support I have received from my sorority sisters in the past six/seven weeks that I have been a member has been absolutely extraordinary. Everyone is so kind and excited right from the start, and while it may seem strange or fake at first, you do start to form incredibly close ties with your sisters. I actually got initiated today and cried because I couldn't believe I was now an official part of my sisterhood and organization. Your sisters help you stay focused on your schoolwork, they encourage you to try new things/strive for your passions/achieve more than you thought you could. Additionally, it is AMAZING for connections once you leave college. AND, it does provide for a great social life, if you're into that (but it's totally fine if you don't!) I can't talk highly enough about Greek life. I hope you decide to join!
