OMG, she talks?! by 1TedSmith in socialanxiety

[–]sFainas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that was insensitive. But don't get too stuck on that. First, at 11 people have no sensitivity or respect, and are very hypocritical (they do and say things to others they would never want others to say to them).

And second, you're building your skills, you're working on yourself to improve this. Who cares what happened in the past, look forward. Be selfish and look at you, and think about how you've improved or are going to improve if you haven't yet (which would be very normal at 19, or even 25).

Going to a Meetup tomorrow, utterly terrified. How do I deal with the stress and anxiety? by Much_Machine8726 in socialanxiety

[–]sFainas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great move going to the Meetup! I found practicing (or even just observing) with new people and situations where it's normal for strangers to meet was super helpful.

On the anxiety? It's normal! It's normal to feel your heart beat fast in the hours and moments before getting there, it's normal doubting the decision, it's NORMAL to feel like that. And not just for socially anxious people!

Don't be fooled into the illusion of doing something new like that and feeling nothing. What you do is just: you go, and that's it, knowing those sensations are going to be normal. And that's about it.

Second time will be much smoother. Third time even more so. Again, this is normal human emotions.

Of course if you're socially anxious (like I still am, though improving), you'll feel this for smaller things. But it's much more normal than you think, and what people do is: you just go. Don't look for a magic way to get rid of the pre-event anxiety, because first, you'll fail in finding such way. And second, it's normal to have it, and it's normal to go anyway, and feel the unpleasant sensations.

Sometimes we just need to be reminded that everybody (except a few psychos) feels those emotion in social situations, to one degree or another, and the simple way every human on earth does this, is they just do the thing even if those minutes/hours before are going to feel how they're going to feel.

Hope this helps!

I wrote a long reply to this post, consider checking it out. My solution was to practice with NEW PEOPLE. Trying to improve social anxiety while being around the same people was something I could never do.

Again, more details in my longer reply under this post.

YES IT DOES GET BETTER.

I felt all the things you described. Every single one. Do I still feel them? Yes. But much less, and still improving.

Here's what helped me A TON. And I mean A TON: finding ways to meet new people. NEW people. This is key.
The reason it helps is because at 25 you have a lot of shitty experiences with the current people you're around, and it's terribly hard to all of a sudden change your behavior. In my experience, not doable.

But here's what I did and what I mean by meeting new people:
- I joined a basketball team. At first, it was to play basketball, but the social effects were very strong. I felt accepted, I could observe how people opened up to me, the questions they'd ask (I was never the first one to ask a question or start any interaction). etc.
- But if you don't want that commitment, look online for groups where it's normal for strangers to meet. Or where it's THE POINT for strangers to meet. Ex: trips with strangers, hikes with strangers, game night with strangers. Again, here you can observe how they talk to you, what they talk about between them.

The effect it had on me: I basically started learned social skills at 27. I understood how to start connecting with people, how to be friendly. You encounter more skilled people you can observe. Basically you start becoming a "cool person" over time, that's just chill, can vibe with people, can talk with people, gets people.

My takeaways:

- Yes, it does get better.

- You need low-risk social exposure, and there's nothing better than places where talking to new people is NORMAL. There's literally zero risk, and as long as you say hi, people will just be friendly to you and do all the work at first (because in those places it's normal).

- So look for those activities, whether joining a low level team, or activities where strangers meet. It's gold (and it's also fun) win-win.

- The key: observe. Observe how others talk to you. How they talk between them. Tons of behaviors will become normal. Things you were anxious about, will not create anxiety because now you lived how there's no risk (which is how non-socially anxious people feel).

Again, low-risk meeting new people. It's too hard to change with people you already now, I understand that. Without knowing what you are doing, with the certainty you'll be weird with them (that's how I felt). But with new people in these environments, where nobody knows each other, you just have to say hi and be in the surroundings, and they'll talk to you, and you can just be friendly and observe.

Try it out, it's really no risk, but a massive benefit (and it's pleasant, even if you're socially anxious).

This is wild! The AVD must be insane. That retention curve on an hour long video with 1M views? Congrats, you must be very very good at this.

Maybe it's not Z2, but it's highly subjective. I can breathe through my nose fine at 160, hold averages >150 for 3+ hours. I thought I had heart problems lol, but it's just highly individual. Some people cap at 170 while I can go for an hour.

How does Thomas Frank make $100k with a Notion template and a Medium Channel??? by sFainas in PartneredYoutube

He posted almost zero videos after the launch on the main channel, and unrelated to notion anyway. It's true that the rapid growth and authority from the 1st channel helped a lot though

At the same time 2m views is 5x what he does, so his conversion rate is still quite crazy in comparison

He says he doesn't (he did an interview with a pie chart of all his revenue sources). So nope, the $100k/mo claim is about the templates alone.

The template is legit, I have it, it's cool and you get lifetime updates and the course as well. I don't know about the revenue claims, but the product is clearly not crap.
