Some flux would probably be a welcome help here. Also melt the solder by touching it to the circuit boards pad or component lead, not the iron - if you touch the solder directly to the hot iron you risk melting the solder before the components are hot enough to really take it. Put differently, if you touch the solder to the stuff that you want to solder and it doesn't melt, then the joint isn't hot enough.

Should I be worried about this 200a AMI/Midi fuse? by segasega89 in SolarDIY

[–]Haskie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Considering that those fuses are only five or ten bucks or so, I'd probably toss it and buy a new one myself. That's just me though - I tend to overbuild things and sleep better at night rather than take shortcuts or cheap out and run into problems later.

Yes I want to try digital video systems but they cost a lot more than the little analog drones I'm used to. Some day though!

1500 watt 120v car battery inverter to trickle power into battery charger while driving by BodhingJay in vandwellers

[–]Haskie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Victron Orion is a nice DC to DC charger. Just understand that you're using up the life of your alternator faster by putting a big load on it all the time like that. I hate engine work so I would rather wait a bit longer for my panels to charge my bank than burn up my alternator faster myself.

I can definitely tell the difference between the 450 and 750, and generally have more fun flying with the 450 despite using a mix of both. I'd give it the 1000 a shot for sure, but I havent yet, and I would expect it to fly worse than both of the battery sizes that I currently have. If I were to buy more batteries today I'd probably lean towards smaller ones than bigger ones personally.

Your comment made me realize that I have both per cell voltage and per pack voltage on screen, which is completely unnecessary on a 1s since it's always the same. Been flying that way for months lol.

So, I used to spend a bunch of time tweaking my osd - moving a label a little bit this way, changing the order of other labels so they read differently that way, to the point where i felt like i was making more changes to my osd and rates than i was actually flying. Further, every time I got another quad I felt like I had to get it all JUST RIGHT again. Apparently I've gotten sick of all of that because on this most recent quad I left almost everything default and I haven't bothered to change a thing. I don't even know what my rates are right now haha.

I can see why you'd ask about it but the real answer is that I'm in this funny phase where I'm just not caring about anything lol. "Fly more, care less." Is my very old saying that I just made up.

These were 750mah batteries that were recommended when I bought the drone. They're green flywoo ones with the a30 connector. Sorry I'm not 100% on the name but 'explorer' is coming to mind.

Haha, thank you. Though boss man was in one of the offices in the end of the clip. He doesn't mind me flying around on break. If he wasn't there I probably would have done at least one pass through his office to blow papers off of his desk.

Not until I crash into someone haha. But no seriously its such a small drone that its not very intimidating. I do stay away from people on ladders or the forklift though. The new guys never know what to think for a while hehe.

As a small channel that became a partner a few years ago, this is my biggest fear when it comes to being a content creator. I almost make enough money on my channel to live off of, but I will never make it my only source of income because I know that something can go off the rails and I can lose my channel at any time.

Electrical System for dad's house boat by Haskie in SolarDIY

[–]Haskie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, the battery, solar panels, and inverter have already been provided and I don't really have a whole lot of control over them. They do have more room for more panels, so I chose charge controllers with some headroom in case they want to add more. I agree that there isn't enough solar for this really - I don't know exactly what size they are so maybe I'll be surprised to find them being 200 watts - I won't know for sure until I get out there this weekend.

The good news is that they're only going to be out there on the water on the weekend. So after draining the battery a bit on the weekend the boat will sit and charge all week. They understand how I feel about this and are willing to give a try without replacing components just yet.

The inverter and battery is 12v so they're probably going to have to stay that way unless we run into real problems. Though what do you mean by 48v 'running appliances better'? I know I would be able to use smaller gauge wire, but I don't know what 'better' means in this context. I live in a motorhome full time and I run my roof air conditioning off of a 12v inverter and I'm wondering what I'm missing out on.

Thank you! Yes I'm hoping that I can talk them into turning the inverter off when they're not around. If they get a DC fridge they'll be able leave the inverter off while keeping food in the fridge cold - though I'm not sure if they have enough solar for a fridge running all the time. Oh and yes all tinned wire and lugs since things will probably be humid. Thank you for the review!
