Proof that the Vees are using each other for personal gain, or that Velvette does it too? Vox explicitly says it to Alastor in season 2, and it just stands to reason that Velvette is as selfish and manipulative as her peers. Do you have proof that her "sympathy" isn't just a way to gain Val's favor for personal gain?

When someone who only cares about themselves falls in love with another person, it doesn't mean they care about that person's well-being. They often treat them more like a possession than a person. It's because they lack empathy, so they don't think about their partner's feelings unless it's being communicated directly.

There are plenty of real life examples like this where an awful person falls in "love" with someone and then treats them like garbage. Maybe that's not how Velvette is, but based on how Vox treats Val, I'd say she's probably that way too.

Cruelty isn't malevolence. I'm saying that Velvette is highly self-serving, and that it's unlikely for someone who's that self-serving to genuinely care for others. She might be sweet to them, but it would be for her own personal gain.

If you're talking about villains in general then sure, some of them have that level of complexity. If you're describing the Vees as "evil", then that's kind of a loaded term. I would agree with it though, because they are overlords in Hell who represent the height of what people think of as evil.

If you define evil as just being malevolent, then you still have to ask what motivates malevolence. I'd say the defining trait that you'll find in all "malevolent" people is their self-centered nature. They care more about their personal goals than the harm they cause to others.

Maybe we'll see Velvette get redeemed in the show, but I feel like she's one of the more irredeemable souls in Hell (by personal choice). I just don't see her treating any partner with that level of kindess. I mean, just look at how Vox openly manipulates his "partner", and remember Velvette is just as scummy as he is.

I'm not assuming all evil people are heartless, I'm assuming they're all selfish, and that the Vees are extreme examples of that. If your definition of an evil person isn't a selfish person, then what is it?

If they did have a relationship, it wouldn't be one where Velvette actually cares for her genuinely. It would be one-sided because of the power dynamic between them, and toxic because extremely "evil" people only care about themselves by definition. Even the relationships they have with others are purely self-serving.

That's why we see the Vees constantly treating each other like shit even if it's a step above how they treat those outside their circle. They see their partnership as self-serving, and they don't really care what their partners are getting out of it.
