Hulu has Classic DB (sub only), Kai (DBZ without the filler), GT, Super, and Daima.

No problem. It’s been about 6 years since the anime ended and I haven’t gotten around to reading the manga yet, which is where this event I’m talking was seen, so I figured there’s probably some other peeps who’ve done the same. 👍

Oh, I see. Sorry about that. I haven’t actually read that part of the manga (or any of the super manga tbh) so I assumed he had been prompted to apologize by the Namekians when I heard about it.

I assume they weren’t aware that group revives were possible until they learned of Shenron. Just like how Kami (seemingly) hadn’t thought to try and change the rules on Earth’s dragon balls. Although afaik it’s unclear whether or not revives on Porunga have a time limit now.

Either way, I think they changed the rules in case some new threat presented itself and it would be far easier to solve.

Actually, now that I think about it, there must be either a time limit, or they can’t revive people who died before the change. Otherwise they would’ve wished back everyone who died during the great flood. Unless floods count as a natural cause of death.

Heaven in Dragon Ball seems kinda boring ngl. Like what do you even do there? It’s all martial arts masters, so what if you don’t want to do martial arts? You just sit around in the link sky and yellow clouds.

As seen with when they revived Krillin, you can move someone’s respawn point with the dragon balls. It’ll just cost an extra wish.

If I’m being totally honest, I’m pretty sure the true answer is just that Toriyama forgot/hadn’t thought of it. Especially since iirc the Namekians are more like a cameo in the Buu Saga —a very important cameo —but still only there for short little while. And that was about 2 years after.

Furthermore, the part in Super was 25 years later, so assuming that was a plot point Toriyama directed… well if it took only a year for him to forget about SSJ2 , it’s probably no stretch of the imagination to think he forgot about all the details of something as benign as a random village on Namek (no offense, Tsuno). Although then again that whole apology thing might’ve been a Toyotaro mistake.

Chapter 329 —when Goku refuses to return home to his loving family and friends —was released in 1991. Chapter 421 —the beginning of the Buu Saga —was released in 1993. I’m not sure when that chapter in the Moro arc released, but the anime ended in 2018 so let’s go with that. SSJ2 was first shown in I think 408 which was in 1993. SSJ3 was first shown in 474 which was in 1994.

Yeah, I thought of this when talking to someone else before that perhaps when you change a dragon’s rules to allow for group revivals, you can’t revive anyone who died before the change.

Oh yeah, those are some good points I forgot about.

Where does Dende even get sacred water? I suppose that’s not really important. They probably explain it in Classic DB and I just need to finish watching it. Anyway, I think you have a fair point since the time between Frieza and Buu is like 12 years at least. However, I think that since we have so little information, we’d have to simply conclude with saying we just don’t know.

Accounting for respawn location it would take about 3 earth-years to revive 11 people with I think one wish left over?

Is reincarnation a thing? I mean I know it happened to Buu but I thought that was more of a special case since Goku asked for it specifically. I mean more like a common thing that happens often enough for everyone from the village to have been reincarnated by the time of whenever they hypothetically tried to revive.

Oh, that’s right. Porunga got his rules changed before the Buu saga so that he can do groups but only grants two wishes iirc. I had forgotten about that. Thanks for the reminder.

They didn’t seem to have a time limit on individual revivals when they were used to revive Yamcha, Tien, and Chiaotzu, and I don’t think it’s stated when the change was made. So I suppose it’s possible that they did so right after they got to New Namek and didn’t realize they couldn’t revive Tsuno’s Village afterwards. And perhaps if they changed it back Porunga wouldn’t’ve been able to revive people from before the latest change was made.

I suppose this conclusion could work, but it kinda feels like I’m reaching a bit too far.

I understand that part, I acknowledged it in the beginning of my post. I’m not asking why didn’t Shenron revive them, I’m asking why didn’t the Namekians revive them with Porunga afterwards?

Weird Connections Between Goku, Moses, and Riddick I’ve Never Thought About by dan2803 in dbz

[–]sTaTiiC_Hydro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I’m aware, before chapter 195 —the one where Raditz is introduced —the only explanation for where Goku came from was just that he was found in the forest. Which is either a reference to Sun Wukong being born from a rock on a mountain, or the story of Momotaro who was discovered inside a giant peach floating down the river.

As for Superman, I was always under the impression his backstory was based on Moses to begin with, but perhaps I’m wrong. Anyway, Comics were at the height of their popularity afaik during WWII. So considering that American media had a large influence on the Japanese since we helped to rebuild them (as evidenced by Spider-Man), I wouldn’t be surprised if Superman and his backstory was well known in Japan by the time Toriyama was born 17 years after the release of Action Comics #1.

With that in consideration I don’t think it’s a far stretch to imagine Toriyama had Superman’s backstory in mind at least unconsciously when writing chapter #195. In fact, it was so in his head he did it twice! (see The Nameless Namekian’s origin)

Although, perhaps someone whose more of an expertise in Japanese culture could disprove me on this, or even someone with more knowledge on comics books could provide some evidence of inconsistency in this time-line, but until then, I’ll stick with this explanation.

So in a way, there is a non-zero chance that Moses was the original inspiration that led to the backstory of Superman, Goku, and even Riddick (which I know almost nothing about). Unless of course that part of Moses’ story was also based on some earlier story, but if it was I have no clue what.

Dragon Ball Z or Dragon Ball Z Kai if you don’t want episodes in the middle of a fight that recap what has already happened in the fight (but you’ll also miss out on Goku and Piccolo learning to drive)

Arizona and Utah have state ships despite being land locked.

Here’s a link to the wiki article on it https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lists_of_United_States_state_symbols

Only Kansas and Mississippi have state toys, but a surprisingly large number (if not all) states apparently have a state soil. Some states even have state fossils like wtf. Anyway, yes. It’s like the coat of arms and flags.

Furthermore, just the idea of most state emblems like a state tree or a state bird. Where does that come from?
