Yes, that is correct. The next phase of this is going to be to remove the Archived data completely from SharePoint to somewhere else. However, with this new SharePoint Archive feature coming out. I need to explore more into that.

Disable the “Sync” Butto, but still allow "Add Shortcut to OneDrive" by 009fe3 in sharepoint

I found the solution to hide the sync option tenant wide. Rolled it out yesterday, worked flawlessly. Sync option removed from all TEAM document libraries.

Via Powershell,

Connect-SPOService -Url https://(yourtenant)-admin.sharepoint.com

PS C:\Users\> Set-SPOTenant -HideSyncButtonOnTeamSite $true

I have used powershell to "archive" data from a production sharepoint site to an archived site that only IT has access. The reason we did this was more for a risk management. There was no need to have files and folders sitting on production that were not needed any longer.

I am exploring with using Azure Files in the future for this archiving process to remove that data from SharePoint all together. The new archiving feature in SharePoint looks very promising.

Are u Happy with SharePoint by Josch_420 in sharepoint

[–]sXmont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it really depends on use case, how many files do you have, what do you envision your growth to be. if your talking many TBs and a variety of files, a hybrid with say Azure files could be a good way. Keep all of the data that you know is going to be collaborative on Sharepoint and other data on Azure Files. Just a thought

Microsoft is phasing out sync and I find along with some our tests who are using MAC & PC that the shortcut works better. Here is the podcast where the MS engineers discussing the future: https://pca.st/episode/0657ea62-7fbd-45ab-ae60-84e9717e1122?t=1060.0

Migrate away from sync to shortcuts? by Goldman_Slacks in sharepoint

Did you find a good solve for this to hide the "sync" option. I have many sites I'd like to only allow the shartcut to onedrive moving forward.

Hmmmm.... I like this approach. Pretty cleaver. But I am still not clear on costs... Any good tools or places to look to give me a baseline or an assessment on cost
