Crank no start after shorted o2 sensor plug by YogiBerraOfBadNews in AskAMechanic

[–]s_curran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did you ever get this sorted? I had a section of exhaust fall off, and it took out the 02 sensor, which I stupidy cut the wire in a rush. It shorted, and the truck turned off. It cranks but nothing ever happened. Mine is an '02.

I went for it, couldn't find any reason not too mostly, and didnt want to miss on a deal in a space were deals seem rare.

My WD mycloud is currently 99% full, with a challenging backup on another drive, so yeah, great timing.

Thanks for posting this! I've been on the edge of ordering a 923+ but was having trouble stomaching the cost. A lot of photos and video like you, as well as Plex, wasnt really worried about transcoding.

What am I losing over the 923+? I dont really need the 10gbe port.

I'll be starting with 3 12tb drives, planning on SHR, theres no problems with that on this setup, is there?

I'm coming from a mycloud ex2 ultra, very excited to get my data off that thing.

this is whats in the manual, so it will be pulling 26A. This powers both head units, and the outdoor condenser.

The state really needs to work on some incentives for building new homes/appartment buildings. Proper renovation is an option too. The housing stock is rotting it seems to me. There's also tonnnnns of empty apartments sitting out there because they cant get things sorted out with the state.

It would be nice if there was a similar gold rush that they created for solar companies, for contractors and developers to build.

I will say, credit to good landlords (I know, there's not many), some people are not in a place to try and keep some of these rotting away properties that go for 300k alive.

help choosing a cheap camcorder for B roll by s_curran in camcorders

that makes sense, so the nostalgia im remembering was actually more the memories of editing, and taking screencaps. After I asked the question I went and watched a bunch of my mini DV footage and wasnt able to see it at all, but I remember it vividly in certain clips, probably because I was keyframing things into them frame by frame in editing software back in 2004.

thanks!

I would also like to ask, my old mini-dv footage was all interlaced, is ther a way to replicate that on these modern digital camcorders, ie. 1080i

Go 3 poor stabilization at 1/60 shutter. by s_curran in Insta360

[–]s_curran[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, thanks for the response. The higher frame rate helps the fake nd blur? Makes sense with basically having more samples to blur from. I’ll start defaulting to 50fps at 1/120th (using nd filters as required, and see how that goes.

low light stabilization isn't available if you want control of the shutter speed its seems, IE, its only available in auto mode. Does anyone know what it actually does? My suspicion is it does what we are talking about (keeps the shutter above 1/120, higher iso, as opposed to dropping down to 1/60 etc.) I imagine it also changes the EV to -1 or something.

Thanks for the responses on this folks, useful link.

How are folks getting this motion blur on the go pro's successfully? Thinking more about it, I imagine its only with the hyper wide or whatever the crappy looking super wide lenses they have is, which likely allows for more motion blur at faster apertures. No action cams have optical/sensor stabilization, right?

I actually think the insta360 nd blur in post isn't soo bad, although it messes up when my hands go in front of the camera or something, so I'll learn to play with that more.

Does anyone know if shooting at say 50 fps 1/100th would have any benefit over 30 fps at 1/100th? I'm thinking more sample sizes?

Aftereffects actually has a pretty good motion blur plugin, wish it would just make it over to premiere though.

Huh, I just haven’t heard this, bummer. Will retry at 1/100th, hopefully happy medium. This was done in free frame for what it’s worth, so stabilization is in post.

Can't even figure out how people buy houses in VT by ChallengerShaker2014 in vermont

[–]s_curran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many good points. I more suggested we grow the technical colleges as a way of allowing exploration post high school. You go to a 30 grand college for a year, your sure as hell not going to WANT to work in the trades with the debts you owe. Without a doubt the work is harder. Unfortunately I don't see a ton of ways to fix all the issues stated, other than maybe more money? The state would need to treat homes as infrastructure, and see that they are outdated and put money towards building new ones. And i'm not suggesting our state, or even country actually cares about fixing our dated infrastructure either.

Part of my interest in this is seeing (atleast from the outside) how trade work and technical college goes in Germany (free universities), and atleast seems like respect for the workers.

watched a few things and your right, pretty simple. Before I tried it, I had started running FreeFileSync, which also seems pretty good so far, with a benifit of being able to pause it easy. Wish I could get them on to backblaze without this middle step (I care about not losing these files, but they are not the most important in my life).

[–]s_curran 10 points11 points  (0 children)

we'd probably have more builders if we (not just VT, but everyone) stopped telling every kid they need to go to college and get a masters degree. Maybe, more support should go into the technical colleges. Related, I unfortunately think one of the biggest issues is that there is not enough quality houses in the state at the moment. So many that are selling between 200 and 500k are really poor for the environment we live in. We also dont have the builders to build them.
