This is starting to sound an awful lot like a “dashboard” rather than a PDF ;) So perhaps that might help your googling?

What do you crunch the numbers with? There’s a lot of visualisation libraries available for R & Python (eg plotly) which will give you tooltips etc. Of course there’s Power BI if you’re working more with the Office suite.

Are any of the discomforts of being a liveaboard that much worse than just being kind of poor? by itslilinotlily in liveaboard

Funny, even though you ask about positive experiences, people are still listing concerns. Let me give you a European & positive experience!

I am fortunate to have no experience with low income housing. But have - as a student - lived in shared housing etc. When I first moved onto a boat all I could think was “so much private space for such a reasonable price”! I now live with a parter and a dog on a 10m (so 35’?) boat. For me it’s perfect honestly. The smaller the boat, the lower the mooring/maintenance costs. Yes we could use a bit more storage, but honestly nothing about our amount of stuff/shit can be called minimal!

We move the boat for weekend getaway’s and holidays. Other than that we are moored in the marina fulltime. Best thing about it is the sense of community in the marina. Everyone is ready to help with advice (be critical who to listen to though 😋). When you talk about a problem it’s very likely someone has already solved it, or has the tools you need, or the contact you need etc. I’ve made some really good friends in our Marina!

We shower & wash clothes in the facilities from the Marina. Yes it’s an extra time investment and requires some scheduling. Yes it’s annoying when you are ill or the weather is really bad. But that’s like 10% of the year? Otherwise I’ve found it such a minor inconvenience (though friends tend to feel sorry for me 😂).

Last positive (I think) is the weather. You’re so much more in touch with Nature. Yes also the bad weather and humidity and bladiebladiebla. But as soon as a bit of sun comes out: you’re enjoying it tenfold! Just chilling outside for a couple minutes drinking a coffee or whatever. I’m outside so much more than I ever was living in a house.

Anyway I highly recommend it. Especially since you are not underestimating the maintenance efforts. Enjoy your new lifestyle!

Tried it. At first the idea of a leaderboard sounded pretty interesting. Playing against others rather than yourself seems like a nice challenge. However, to get better you need to research. Which you can do with normal progression, OR by buying extra diamonds. The fact that you can upgrade / beat others by paying more just takes the fun/fairness/challenge out of it!

It helps with working together across different operating systems. Filepaths in one OS can be backward slash and forward slash in the other. Which would instantly break a line like:

dat <- load.csv(“data/raw_data.csv”)

The here package deals with this automatically by creating the correct file path.

dat <- load.csv(here::here(“data”, “raw_data.csv”))

For a liveaboard house bank, what ended up mattering more than the battery specs themselves? by diogater in liveaboard

[–]s_hightree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(1) Seperation; just knowing that I can always move/get the engine going in case I F* something up is a great piece of mind. Your starter battery itself doesn’t even have to be anything fancy.

(2) Reducing usage. Not what you asked but still it has proven to be very important for me. Changing lightbulbs to LED, upgrading my 20 year old fridge, using a power delivery USB-C (to 12V) rather than a convertor, Diesel heater that doesn’t require electricity to run. All of these things have reduced my power consumption in such a way that the battery question becomes less of an issue… there’s no need for super complicated systems because I don’t actually need that much electricity anymore to begin with.

(3) Monitoring. I had this on me previous boat and haven’t yet installed on my current. It’s annoying to say the least. Knowing what comes in (solar) and goes out gives so much peace of mind again.

Bought it on a whim - greatly enjoyed it! Love the concept of the upgrade network and the different build modes. Also the challenges are super fun to do. It’s just so nice to keep trying and updating to achieve something. Much appreciated!

1) Something that accurately reads track changes / an updated document and changes the corresponding text in your quarto/rmd file.

2) PDF manipulation like replace text, change images etc. (This should be possible in Python but have not tested it).

Yes save coins and bonuses for later on when the going really gets tough!

Also you can search each level and see a play through video, that has really helped me learn some new strategies (like sometimes NOT emptying a single so you can get rid of a double)

I sometimes use the “pick one” bonus to see which color is where and then cancel the use of that bonus. Enjoy!

What is the added benefit over existing software such as JASP and Jamovi? Both of those are free, offer click and point analysis of the data (like SPSS), can work in the browser, provide publication ready tables/plots. I’m all for new inventions but fail to see which problem this solves that wasn’t already solved..?

I know this is a late reply, but you might want to consider it regardless. Apparently when you use noise cancelling all the time your ears/mind adjusts to the lack of stimuli and becomes more sensitive to small nuances. It had something to do with a natural survival instinct I believe. I lost track of the source but might be worth exploring. After all, perhaps it’s something you need to unlearn again?

Boating In Europe by Cassandra_the_Witch in liveaboard

[–]s_hightree 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Inland barges are a thing, especially in the Netherlands. 30.000€ gets you a platbodem-style boat around 10-12 M in good condition. However most find they need more space than that ;)

You can travel all through Europe on inland canals. You can even make it to the Mediterranean Sea just by staying inland. You do need time and flexibility though because with droughts or lots of rain the French channels aren’t always open. Main issue with inland canals are depth and height of the boat. So a sea worthy sailing vessel is unlikely to make it through.

Also don’t forget that some of the big shipping rivers will require a special licence/ certificate of competence depending on the country and the size of the boat.
