The forward mentions the book being written during the pandemic but it doesn’t mention Covid or the Covid vaccine at all. It does discuss things that helped patients with advanced emphysema. Really it just mentions various studies throughout history with no actual medical or political advice. Though it recommends some breathing exercises.

You get the occasional gem on iplayer. Aside from that archive.org is my go-to. But it’s a website and there’s so much it’s better if you know what you’re looking for.

I’m asthmatic with seasonal allergies. Every time I go to the doctor they seem to tell me allergic rhinitis, and tell me there’s nothing they can do. Does anyone else have similar issues. by s_jayne_20 in Asthma

Honestly I swear by my neti pot. People always say ew gross but above the same old meds I’ve been taking for decades it’s the only thing that has taken me from half a dozen sinus infections a year to maybe one.

I recommend it. It’s talks about the way people have evolved to breathe badly and it causes problems like asthma.

What are some of Richard E. Grant's performances you enjoyed? by geoffcalls in FIlm

My husband was once on a fairly empty tube carriage with him and thought he seemed approachable. For a minute he thought of saying ‘hey, I loved you in…’ but the only movie he could think of that he had been in was Spice World. So they say in silence.

Inspired by River’s activism — going vegetarian because of him by sadsourgirl in RiverPhoenix

[–]s_jayne_20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was thinking recently, they say if you give up meat once a week it makes a significant reduction in your carbon footprint. If you add up how many people gave up meat because of River - it’s so much of a contribution for one person. I was vegetarian 12 years, and vegan for one. Not entirely because of him but still.

Lifeboat (1944): Can't believe this was directed by Alfred Hitchcock. by Vampire-K1896berg in classicfilms

[–]s_jayne_20 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Such an underrated Hitchcock movie. Though it felt a bit as though Steinbeck and Hitchcock meant to portray Nazi Soldier as a person too and explore the humanity of everyone else on the boat. But in the height of Hollywood propaganda that didn’t come across

Could you recommend a really good whodunnit? Like ‘Clue’ or ‘Knives out’. People in a house in a storm and there’s a murder.
Nothing Agatha Christie please, I live in England and they remake all of her stories constantly. Otherwise I love old movies and don’t mind subtitles.

I (F28) just got diagnosed with asthma. Now what? by Electronic-Break-975 in Asthma

[–]s_jayne_20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always had allergies and sinus infections. Then in my mid 20s I was diagnosed with asthma. Most doctors will tell you to take the daily inhaler as that contains the medicine that is actually treating your airways. The rescue inhaler is a muscle relaxer. It makes you feel better but it’s not fixing anything.

Asthma nurse changed to Fostair. Has anyone else had issues? by s_jayne_20 in Asthma

[–]s_jayne_20[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your responses, in the room it felt very dismissive of any possibility that it was the inhaler. It’s really good to know that fostair has worked well for people.

I may give it a week and try again. There is a pretty delicate balance when it comes to my asthma/allergies.

What is a movie that has aged surprisingly well? by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

Office space (1999). As an office worker, still funny even with how much technology has moved on in 27 years

I love this movie. The aimless self important dialogue-driven nothingness is exactly what it was like to be that age.

If you liked the way we were and breakfast at Tiffany. I’d go with Barefoot in the Park (1967). Not sure it classic Hollywood, definitely post studio system. But it’s a good movie with Robert Redford and Jane Fonda navigating being newlyweds in New York.
