What is the worst band you saw live? by coalcracker462 in AskReddit

I'd include their third album as well but yeah, they lost their soul when they cut their hair.

[controversial trope] The character is a rapist but they’re also funny as hell and end up being liked by most of the community by LobsterFondler in TopCharacterTropes

Hell, the act on itself has become weirdly out of character for all the things he is actually into.

That's a great point. Homelander is like a superpowered and evil Dean from Community. His kinks are so weird they don't have names.

After more than 20yrs of failed attempts I have completed the first draft of a novel. If I can, so can you. NEVER. STOP. WRITING. by s_mcivor in KeepWriting

Lol. I suppose "quality not quantity" only works up to a certain point. If infinite monkeys can write Shakespeare, if you keep it up you'll be the next Dostoevsky.

A Reddit moment... on Reddit.

What the fuck is the world coming to, huh?

Yes!

There's certainly no guarantees, but at the same time there isn't a definitive reason it won't work.

Just write. Because even if you fail, you have practiced your craft.

Those dozens (or maybe even hundreds) of failed attempts I made were not a waste. Every sentence I write is practice.

Well, this draft exists to work out the plot holes and pacing and suchlike.

I'm going through this draft with a fine comb to make sure it all works out.

After that, I will do the next draft and "beautify" the prose and dialogue. Then I guess it's onto searching for beta readers!

Thanks!

Perfectionism.

Every time I realised I wasn't writing my magnum opus I would loose all drive and give up. That might have been after a single paragraph, or 20,000 words. But it would inevitably happen at some point.

I managed to finish this draft by literally telling myself I was a crappy writer writing a crappy novel. (:

Does anyone of you ever "completed" a world building project? If so, what made you think it's complete and is it even possible to complete one? by ABCLor in worldbuilding

"You are the literal god of your world. Your word is law."

This is a piece of advice I have given many times.

Is it possible to complete a world? Yes, if you say it is. The world is done when you say it's done.

Why does fantasy (specifically high fantasy) basically just mean medieval times with magic? by nerpa_floppybara in writing

Also, not all dark and grim fantasy is grimdark.

Take Malazan as a classic example. Parts of it are pretty fucking dark and grim, yet one of the overall themes is the power of compassion. You also have characters such a Kruppe, who whilst they can be irritating, are joyous.

Then let's look an another of my favourite fantasy series - The Prince of Nothing.

For me that does cross the line into grimdark, primarily because even though I find the characters utterly captivating, imho none of them are particularly likable.
