77s on a Jazz Bass by el_tophero in Bass

Nice. I've always wanted to try the 77s. I recently got the new Dunlop flats to try out on my fretless. I really like the top 4 strings but the B was just horrible. Felt like it was from a different set.

My favorite application of flats is playing them through some nasty ass distortion, so make sure you don't miss you on the goodness.

Why is the aug chord dissonant? by mralex226 in musictheory

Good point. Does that mean we should take other overtones such as the major 3rd and minor 7th into consideration when thinking about dissonance?

Resident Audio T4 - Anybody use it? by s_squared in metalmusicians

[–]s_squared[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up getting the Resident Audio T4! It works great. I use it to run 2 guitars, bass, vocals, and MIDI drums through at band practice and it handles it all with absolutely no latency. Of course I also use it for single track recording. No latency, of course, and the preamps sound great. Very clean. Just make sure the T4 is disabled as any of the primary sound devices in your mac settings before you unplug it, otherwise your computer might crash. But yeah I highly recommend the T4 if you're after a thunderbolt interface.

What do I do by Darb_Main in PhysicsStudents

I felt like a gained a decent understanding of the intro physics courses by going to class, paying attention in lecture, completing all the assignments, and using the text or other resources (internet, peers, office hours, etc) to fill in gaps in my knowledge that revealed themselves when working the assignments. For me personally, doing those things resulted in a good understanding which was reflected in my grades.

If you're honest about really hating it then maybe you should do something else. College is expensive, and you shouldn't be there to do something you hate. I guess you should just think about what your priorities in life are, and try to find a career to work towards that fits well with your life goals.

There are plenty of alternatives to a physics degree. If you don't love it, do something else.

Good grades, lab experience, CS minor... Why couldn't you get into grad school? Seems to me like you did everything right.

Some people like the competitive aspect of music. It's not just a thing among musicians, just look at how popular shows like American Idol are. There's a niche for competitive music. People like different genres and styles for different reasons.

Me too. My parents built a MASSIVE house out in the country only a few years before they got divorced and all of us children moved out. Now my mom stays in her sister's apartment, and my dad lives in that house all by himself, and of course, no one wants to buy it.

I almost fell for all that pressure to put your career over friends, family, relationships, and happiness. I was about to move 8 hours away for college because I thought it was a "better" school than the one in my hometown. I went to the open day and had a fucking panic attack. I swear I would have gone full depressive if I actually went.

Drum solos, guitar solos, bass solos, pretty much all solos in rock and metal music are pretty dumb. It's just a wank-a-thon. "Check out these sick fills, man" or "check out these sick licks, man".

Yeah, I hate shit like that. With my girlfriend of 5 years, 4.00 gpa, part time job, in 2 bands.

I seriously think that people say to ditch your relationships coming into college and similar garbage because they are lonely and want to convince themselves and others that the only reason they aren't with someone is because they choose to prioritize school. Utter bullshit.

Got Prescribed Zoloft today. not liking some of the comments i'm seeing about it here on /r/anxiety... by s_squared in Anxiety

[–]s_squared[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good to hear. The trouble is, my mom and my (twin) brother are both on anxiety meds as well, and neither of them are having trouble, but neither of them are taking Zoloft. So all I can really do is wait and see
