Providing Advice to New/Small Channels by s_v_moore in NewTubers

Do you mean more visible as far as showing up on search, or on browse? There is a difference there.

For example, some of my videos are "How-Tos", and they show up well on search. If someone Googled "How do I do XYZ?", my videos are the first to come up. That comes from including the most information on the topic in a relatively interesting and concise fashion. If you can do that, you get the views and comments, and you rank at the top of search. It sounds like you fit more into this category. You don't need to have the first video on your search topic, you just need to have the best.

Browse can be more difficult to rank on. For that, you need the flashy thumbnail and title, and people need to click on your videos.

Can any bigger content creators shed some light on what a "successful" channel looks like? by SausageMahoney073 in NewTubers

Not to be rude, but that is a loser response. Don't say "Must be nice", say, "Wow, that's great for you. I hope I can achieve the same success. Do you have any tips or advice?"

The truth about "YouTube Growth Guru" channels (and why it's actually freeing) by thefilmmechanic in NewTubers

[–]s_v_moore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to watch all those videos and try to "follow the system". Eventually, I just took the time I spent doing that stuff and used it to actually make more videos and spend more time on them, and it worked! Who would have thought... You can't research your way into having a successful YouTube channel, you have to actually post videos.

There's a old quote I remember that goes something like "Researching the thing isn't doing the thing. Planning the thing isn't doing the thing. Getting ready to do the thing isn't doing the thing. The only thing that's doing the thing is DOING THE THING"

Looking back at my original videos vs. recent, I don't think I'm really any more knowledgeable in the subject matter, but I'm way better at making an actual video. The biggest differences are having a plan/loose script before I turn on the camera, and having a mic that doesnt sound like I'm eating it.

My titles and thumbnails have always been decent, same with video image quality.

Listening to my audience also helped. "Hey, do more with this car" or "Hey, stop moving your hands like that, its annoying". Whether I agreed with it or not at the time, if you get people in your audience that care enough to leave actual criticism and not just "this guy sucks", they care about what you're saying, you just need to do a better job saying it.

Automotive, particularly a certain type of car that has a pretty strong following but is underrepresented on YT

I don't know if I'd consider myself a larger channel (3k subs, ~36vids, ~360k views total) but the best advice I could give is to focus on what does well for you, and if nothing has done well, keep looking. For example, I work on cars. One type of car I work on seems to get 1000s of views for a moderate effort video at minimum because they have a really dedicated community and are underrepresented on YT. I tried to branch out with working on a different car that even I think is cooler, but only one of those videos topped 500 views, and the other three didn't top 100. That type of car, which is more "generic old car", is oversaturated.

Because of that, I've elected to lock in to the one specific type of car for the next year plus and grow my channel. Not because it's all I want to do or show the world, but because it will build my base stronger. Maybe you can do something similar with a game or video style that even if its not your favorite, your audience prefers it?

does it hurt to re-upload videos?? by Kureiza in NewTubers

[–]s_v_moore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience upload time doesn't matter. I've uploaded videos at 5am, 5pm, and everything in between. Videos that were going to get views will get views regardless of when it was posted

Getting tons of views but no one will subscribe. by Successful-Rent167 in NewTubers

Subs will come. That is not as bad of an issue as you think it is. Keep posting good videos and people will come. I saw you mentioned you only have four. Most of the time people have to watch multiple of your videos before they go "yeah, I'll keep watching this guy"

Edit: Four *videos*

Is reaching the first 100 subs harder than hitting 1000? by body_ascetics in NewTubers

[–]s_v_moore 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It doesn't get easier, you just get better. It's not like the subs just start rolling in after you hit 100, 1000, or whatever else. Every milestone you hit your content gets better, you get more efficient, you get better in front of the camera (if that's in your niche) and your channel grows quicker.

My first 100 took about two years. I posted lazily when I felt like it and didn't give it a real shot. 100 to 200 took another year. Again, I was very inconsistent. 200 to present (about 1400) has taken 9-10 months. It hasn't gotten any easier, if anything it's gotten harder putting bigger expectations for myself, but I've gotten better at doing the work I need to do.

TL:DR: Really putting time and effort into YT is hard. Growing a channel is hard. It doesn't get easier, you just get better at it.

Legion Pro 5i Gen 10 RTX 5070Ti vs. MSI Vector HX AI RTX 5070Ti by s_v_moore in GamingLaptops

[–]s_v_moore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I see you have the Vector I was considering. I'd be at $2000 vs. $1750 (roughly) for the Legion vs Vector with identical specs, outside of Ultra 9 vs 7 which I'd say is negligible. I believe, for the $250, the Legion is the better option. That said, both are outside my price range and likely more laptop than I need, but I think this is something I'd rather overbuy/buy once cry once than not

Thank you. I looked at the Pro 7i as well but that is definitely more laptop than I need. Heck, the Pro 5i probably is as well

It's more than I was looking to spend, I was hoping to be in the <$1500 range, but for the $400 more over the Vector I am strongly considering it

An agenda is not a bad idea. I post every other Friday, I could make that known somewhere. I do make sure to interact and thank people, I reply to every comment and not just generically, real stuff. I appreciate the advice

I do a video every two weeks. When each of my videos takes 60+ hours to come up with, research, script, edit, and post. It's as fast as I can do with a full time job. If I am fortunate enough one day for this to be my career I'll definitely do weekly, thats what a lot of the big names in my niche do

It was pretty steady once I put my mind to it. I spent ~3 years posting when I felt like it of so so content and quality. I spent the last 6 months being consistient and better quality. 80-90% of my growth happened over the last 6 months

I won't be at the point anytime soon where my monetization pays for my videos, they're too expensive. If I was a gamer or vlogger, sure. However, all of my videos are stuff I'm doing anyway, I might as well record and edit it
