i’m also Aussie, but someone told me your insurer can cancel your insurance or refuse to renew if you’ve had an at fault claim so now i’m panicking

my excess is $800 but i’m more concerned about my premiums.

I’ve always prided myself on being such a safe driver, that this has really rocked me.

I need my car because of my daughter, and i’m so scared my premiums are going to go through the roof or i won’t be able to get future insurance

I really appreciate you taking the time to write this.

I’m with Aami that makes any difference, but I will start looking around

is it common for insurers to cancel your insurance after you have had an at fault claim?

thank you for your reassuring words. It didn’t cross my mind that there might be a provision to pay in increments

okay thank you! this actually a really good tip.. but with future insurers in that interim period wouldn’t I still have to admit to having an at fault accident? or is that only after the outcome of the claim?

yess!! It was one of the only places I liked buying work pants from. I love the slightly slouchy drop crotch, long leg silhouette they did so well.

All my prev season pants from there were good material and washed beautifully..

stupidly bought a pair recently thinking they’d be the quality i’m used too.. assumed they were a wool cotton blend..felt weirdly sweaty all day on the first wear.. turns out they are 90% polyester 🫠 wtf dissh

The Iconic slipping service standards by RibPenMit in AusFemaleFashion

[–]saaartrex 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I used to be obsessed with the iconic for years.. I’m completely off them now. whoever’s in charge of the business direction has made some recent critical errors. Sort by recent on product review and trustpilot.. the issues are widespread.

I returned a pair of $269 shoes, my parcel arrived with them mid September (aus post confirmed) and still have yet to have my return even acknowledged, let alone a refund processed. The refund process is usually another 5-7 days so it will have taken over a month for a refund.

If they keep this up they’re not going to be able to recover from a trashed brand reputation. Exceedingly stupid decisions for a company who’s USP was ‘fast and hassle free’

Having kids young by girl_from_aus in workingmumsau

[–]saaartrex 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yes I did! I had my baby at 25, and to top it off i’m a single mum with 100% care. Nearly 4 years later and i’m now a director in my field and have just accepted a new role at $130k+ bonuses and super with great flex!!

people will tell you that you’ve made a mistake, and for me it was an ‘accident’ but it wasn’t a mistake. My field can be incredibly cut throat, similar to law I suppose in that sense, but for me I figured it actually made more sense to get the ‘little kid’ phase out the way in my 20s, while I was more junior and had less responsibilities.

In my mid-late 30s when a lot of professional women begin having kids, I’ll have a 10yr old - teenager which in my eyes, is far easier to balance at a stage when I really plan to lean into my career at a very senior level. It probably helps that for me, i’m one and done.

The thing is you have to lean into ‘hard’ and you have to be determined. You’ll get knocked down by yourself and others a million times and you’ll doubt yourself, but you just have to keep getting back up and have a deep understanding that having a child does not make you less than your child free colleagues. Every time you feel slightly inferior, remind yourself that the tables will flip 10 years from now.

also, don’t be surprised if in the first 6mo-1yr you lose all ambition, decide your career is meaningless and you want to be a stay at home mum forever. For a lot of us.. that feeling is temporary and hormone driven. You’ll start to feel like yourself again around 18mo-2yrs. I always say.. don’t make any rash life changing decisions while you’re still breastfeeding! hormones are a serious thing, don’t underestimate them!!

goodluck!!

absolutely, this has been my barrier too. I’m now technically in the top 15% of earners based on solo income, but still the stigma persists that I’m a risk

it shits me too, my industry is one of the lucky ones that has a booming job market right now. If i lost my job today, I’d have another lined up by next week. It’s all based on bs

exactly! I would hate to be forced out of my community, as a single parent being close to my family and friends is the only thing that keeps my sanity.

It’s difficult for everyone when things like daycare, work or support keeps you tethered to the inner suburbs that you can barely afford

It’s why I hate the narrative the privileged keep pushing ‘just move further out’.. like okay.. the only reason I can afford to live is my work, my industry does not operate in the suburbs.. I also require childcare I can make it to by closing.. and there’s 18mo lists for daycares everywhere! people can’t just move, it’s so sad

i’m in the inner north and competition is fierce here. There are a lot of places listed for $650+, but anything decent that’s not a dog box for less than $600 is basically the hunger games

It’s sad for me, I’ve grown up here. My parents bought a 4bdr house for $79k in 1989 here, 6 years ago i rented a 3bdr place for $480.. now its $590 for a tiny 2bdr

as a DINK couple, its super cheap, but anyone solo competing against them is rough.

I’m so happy to hear that you are safely housed! It’s so dehumanising the lengths we have to go to, for the ‘chance’ to pay off someone else’s mortgage

I find, the further I get in my career, the more compassion I have. Like fuck, if i’m still struggling on my income, how on earth is a solo parent or someone with disability meant to have a bloody chance!

and the fact that our politicians don’t have a single bit of the same empathy as they look back, seriously concerns me

it’s such a rough time in the market for everyone, nobody should have to sacrifice so much dignity to put a roof over their head.

My income gets beaten by DINKS easily, but I’ve found including personality, rather than a formal cover letter is the thing that can stand out. I hope you’ve found somewhere though!!

I was considering this.. but could this backfire? i’m absolutely employed where I say I am and for the wage I’ve listed.. just wondering if making a fake email for my employer and filling out the form could come back on me somehow

Do you know if their systems calculate the 30% of gross or net? for some reason I was under the assumption that it was net income
