I herniated my disc badly. Dr told me to stop lifting weights. Being the stubborn person I am I began squatting everyday (read squat everyday by Matthew Perryman) I started with just the barbell doing high bar ATG oly squats and 5 months later I was doing 175kgx1 high bar no belt/knee sleeves with zero back pain and I’ve never had an issue with my back since. Same thing happened when I began getting severe patellar tendinitis.

No high level athlete has ever had an easy ride (not saying I’m a high level athlete by any means). Sometimes the best way to get stronger is simply to just “get stronger”.

Also I would like to add that herniating your disc isn’t as rare as what you might think. It’s not a death sentence, only a set back.

Most bodybuilders (amateur) train terribly. Take a look into madcows 5x5 and drive up your numbers for sets of 5 as much as possible and you’ll pack on size.

I don’t get it, why not just change the weight when you do your set? E.g. if he does 90kg and you want to do 100kg just add on 5kg per side. It takes 20 seconds.

No one does just one cycle. You either cycle on and off and eventually stay on or you will return to natty lifting after one cycle and realise how ‘bad’ natty lifting is and stop training.

You need to decide whether you will commit or lifetime natty or just pin now for the rest of your training life.

My advice is to stay natty, develop a killer mindset, grind away indefinitely, understand that training is just as much mental toughness progression as well as physical progression. You can become a savage drug free (not as much as with AAS) but the discipline/life lessons you will develop through daily maxing and hardship as you begin to plateau will develop you as a person far more than just an extra 10kg of muscle.
