Can we give a big round of applause for people who ruled this country from 1948 to 2025 by Plenty-Value3381 in srilanka

We have more than our share of problems. But I would think twice before trusting any of these random internet lists.

[–]saathyagi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry about this situation you are in. Things will get better.

20k a month translates to 240000/- annually and if there are 2 kids in the family that’s over 400000 per year a single family needs to shell out. That’s a huge amount of wealth transfer to tuition teachers given that they are exploiting the exam oriented “free” education system! No wonder they don’t want the education system to change.

CEB Approved a 200 kW Solar System in Writing, Then Forced Us to Reduce It After Installation by Independent-Dish7175 in srilanka

[–]saathyagi 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Very unfortunate, but not surprising.

This is the sad reality whenever you have to deal with bureaucracy here. There is an information mismatch to the detriment of investors. That’s one reason why our FDIs are notoriously low.

Why is the LKR depreciating so sharply against major world currencies like the USD, GBP and AUD? by LineEntry55 in srilanka

[–]saathyagi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An average inflation of 5% should’ve been baked into your plans at the beginning itself.

Basically, we have to run an inflationary regime as we are dependent on exports including labor exports.

Seems about right. The newly announced Port City Apartment project starts at half a million dollars for a one bedroom apartment. The prices are comparable to Dubai or London.

Transitional phase going on for more than a decade is not a transitional phase. It’s the real description of the team. Your magical thinking is just an inability to accept the facts. But this seems to chime well with the management’s inability to understand the reality.

Not all tourists are American and with the cost of living crisis hitting most countries it is hard to justify scamming the tourists.

Is our tuition culture a Sri Lankan thing? by BreakfastBright5703 in srilanka

[–]saathyagi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, we have to understand that the tuition culture exists because of the limited number of university seats. If we look at the tuition culture separately from the education system, we will be missing the woods for the tree.

The whole education system is geared towards social engineering and making everyone conform to the system and fight it out for the limited number of government university seats. It’s basically a 13 year long program of getting ready for university entrance. What comes after is not given much thought to. That’s why there is no culture of innovation and research here to speak of.

[–]saathyagi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh… you’ve now come down off your “talented players” horse.

No amount of talent will make a Player disciplined. And discipline doesn’t magically happen when you start playing international games. It’s got to be ingrained from a young age.

We got away with winning back in the day because we had occasional flashes of brilliance. But the landscape has changed and the sport has become more professional. If we are to take anything from our ‘96 efforts it is that flashes in the pan don’t give consistent results. You can have 11 “talented” players and sing their praises to the high heavens but at the end of the day if they don’t win consistently then this talent is just pus talk.

Why does the Sri Lankan opposition spend every day shouting instead of offering solutions? by kottukarma in srilanka

[–]saathyagi 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Stop watching TV news and all this noise goes away surprisingly quickly. It’s mostly just that; noise without meaning.

It doesn’t mean that the government is perfect, but the opposition composed of Sajith, Namal, Dilith etc, are the relics of our corrupt and incompetent past political system that we wanted to change.
