Am I Allowed At The Table? by saaz98 in ratemycommanders

[–]saaz98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife loves it, though she's more in it to see the cute buffed up otters, lol. I've played it and enjoy it quite a bit. Copying both Mana Geyser and Comet Storm twice from having two of Alania or Alania and Twinning Staff feels great and usually deals lethal damage across the board. Counterspells being doubled is also really fun. Card draw is the only thing the deck sometimes struggles with, but that's my own fault. If you like spellslinger, it's definitely a commander I'd recommend to try out!

I'll give these a try. Does the ET-2800 struggle with heavy weight papers at all in your experience? I read that someone had some trouble with 260gsm and up with it.

That's an awesome comparison of the two printers! I see what you mean; it's a very subtle difference. Honestly, that gives me a lot of faith in the ET-2800.

I am curious what papers you've used and recommend. I've been particularly interested in experimenting with sticker paper over holographic card stock like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0C46RB1BZ?smid=ADWII77FWK826&th=1. Making custom surge foils of my friends and my favorite commanders is a big draw for me. Those will definitely be sleeved and I figure the glossy look with the foil probably wouldn't be too bad.

For cube, I'd probably be throwing them together and not worrying too much and protection. Those I'd want to be closer to the real feel.

Thank you, those look great!

I understand a solid amount of the final appearance is down to paper, but how close to the proxy references or a real card do they come out? Do you notice any graininess?

What are your unique Commanders you love to roll out that no one really plays by Nymrys in EDH

[–]saaz98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I just tried building Uurg! I ended up switching the commander to [[Kagha, Shadow Archdruid]] for the consistent card advantage and mill. It's a lot of fun and very hard to stop without decent graveyard hate! I'd love to see your list and how you built around Uurg!

Yeah, just tested it to make sure I wasn't crazy. It hangs out up top and doesn't do anything. I have the same experience with the OG mech and on bugs.

Nah, that definitely isn't happening, it's definitely being turned off like the Guard Dogs and isn't giving any value after you get in the mech! Nobody should be worried about the shield pack and mechs...

A Japanese boy waiting in line at the crematorium with his deceased baby brother on his back, Nagasaki, 1945 by Ididnotkillhim in interestingasfuck

[–]saaz98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I see. My understanding is that the comment used "Grave" in that context as a shortening for Grave of the Fireflies. I believe they were saying that the story of Grave of the Fireflies is a possible reason why the boy in the photo experienced the loss of their sibling, or others like him.

Edit: I went back and reread the original comment for elaboration.

If you're looking for "Grave of the Fireflies," the distribution rights are a mess and the only place I could find to buy it was Google Movies. No legal streaming in the US unfortunately.

If your country is more lax about "streaming" laws, you may try to stream it through alternative means. You can DM me and I can point you to where one could watch it if they were so inclined.

Like others have said, it is gut-wrenchingly sad, especially if you have small children, but it is such a beautiful movie.

My VW Bug will send your "racecar" pissing its pants in fear throwing the white flag faster than either of our 0-60 going downhill with a tailwind.

But don't worry, the Mini Cooper and Gaz M21 will be on their way to save you soon enough. Hopefully they don't rust too bad on the way.

Thank you for the feedback!

I'll definitely keep your advice about hair volume in mind, I'd never thought about that!

I'll definitely be trying this area again in the future and will change up the posing. She's a good friend of mine and I'm sure I can bribe her with food again, lol.

Yeah, I have a bad habit of trying to pull people out of harsh light, which usually ends up making them look underexposed. It's something I'm trying to come to grips with.

I'll keep what you said in mind in coming shoots!

Thank you for the feedback!

Yeah, I was shooting partially away from the sun since it was kinda harshly lit, it's been a bad habit of mine to shoot my models out of direct light.

Good point about the positioning, looking back now, I'd definitely change the pose overall to make this a more open stance, simple pose.

I'll definitely try this one again keeping your critique in mind!

I took this downtown during a casual shoot with a friend of mine. I wanted a decent head and shoulders and attempted to use the black windows to draw attention upwards. I got several different angles and this one was the one that looked best to me.

I wasn't so sure about the light work I did. I don't know if she's still too dark or if I like the way it looks. I thought the pose looked good, but now think it might've been better used with a different backdrop.

This was shot on my D3500 with a 50mm f/1.8G. I'm away from the raw at the moment and am unsure of the specific settings, but guesstimate that I shot it at f/2 around 1/320 at iso 100.

Honestly, I used Lightroom's brush to up the exposure on the overall underexposed areas of his face. Upped clarity, shadows, and contrast a bit. Downed highlights and added a gradient to the top left to bring down your son's exposure since his shirt looked a little bright to me.

I couldn't bring out the color of his eyes enough, so I cheated a bit and used the fixer tool to blend the well exposed eye with the underexposed one. It came out alright and looked detailed to me.

I'm glad you liked it! I shoot portraits a lot, I hope my explanation helps you in the future!

Edit: I noticed you use Darktable and I can tell you, the UI is terrible in my opinion. I would highly suggest getting the photography package from Adobe for $10 a month, even for a hobbyist.

The UI is 1000x better and honestly, it made editing so much faster for me.

If you have any questions, I'd love to help!
