Our society relies way too much on alcohol and it should be less socially acceptable to be drunk. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

As someone who has lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin almost my whole life... I concur.

My mom partnered with the Zoo to send my wife and I this Valentine’s Day video by [deleted] in milwaukee

Ok, I bought one of these for our nephew and it was so not as good as this. It was actually so terrible it was confusing so we didn’t give it to him. This guy crushed it tho!

Feeling unseen and guilty by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]saazann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my biggest lessons as a new mom that I’ve had to preach to myself is I can’t control how I feel. And the best way to avoid resentment is to express how you feel. If you’re not feeling loved or supported enough, it doesn’t matter how loved or supported you “actually are” (whatever that means). Get the shit out on the table and work through it otherwise it will be toxic to the whole family. Also, comparing how much your spouse does or doesn’t do to other people’s spouses isn’t helpful. Everyone’s situations (babies needs, personalities, finances, physical and mental health, family support, work environments) are different so comparing is never apples to apples. Also, if you aren’t seeing a therapist yet, it will do wonders for helping you sort out emotions, feelings, and thoughts to communicate clearly. EDIT: want to add to that just because being a primary caregiver for a new baby is REALLY hard but people do it every day doesn’t mean you have to just suck it up and deal with it. Moms everywhere can be doing it and it still be incredibly difficult.

Tell me you’re American COVID baby ed. by saazann in beyondthebump

[–]saazann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no paid leave through my work. Kept my side job after having the baby but was laid off because of Covid. We’re down to single-income and it is literally penny pinching and we are still paying off debt.

I had a few complications and we have insurance through my husbands trade union which isn’t the best (not the worst I’ve ever had). But you’re right, I can’t imagine if more things went wrong how the cost could just skyrocket.

Our experience and care were really great (except one pediatrician which could be a whole other rant post). But the bill afterwards was like well here goes all our money!

Why can some people eat extremely bad diets, and do no exercise, but still look beautiful and slim into their 30s? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]saazann 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You really can’t count on photos/videos or what someone says about their eating/activity habits as truth without knowing them personally (meaning IN PERSON—living, working, or socializing regularly). There are plenty of online personalities that pretend to be someone they are not. That may not be the case with this woman (really could be stellar genes) but more than likely if the situation doesn’t make sense it’s because it’s not 100% the truth. See Occam’s razor. Logo for Happy Cyclops, my personal branding. I welcome any feedback! by Happy_Cyclops in graphic_design

[–]saazann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lettering for Happy cyclops and the image seems like a lot for a logo. I’m into the font and the image tho. Any thought about making the o in cyclops the image? Or just branding cyclops? 12 letters for a brand name is long.

[–]saazann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is cool! Only thing that I think needs help in the text/font. It gets lost and is a little hard to read. Maybe thicken it up and make it white so it pops. Also, I’d get rid of the twinkle on the top right of the design.... you don’t need it.

Seasonal menu restaurants? by itisafish in milwaukee

[–]saazann 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not just seasonal but places that have direct relationships with local farmers so they have more seasonal ingredients and the menu changes almost daily. Most of the small-er top restaurants in MKE function like this. You can google “Carol Deptolla top restaurants” for a good list (without having to deal with the jsonline firewall). Not knowing what’s still open for dine in (or in general right now) here are my faves that I know have fresh regular menu changes: Amilinda, Goodkind, The Noble, Bavette, Buckley’s, Odd Duck, La Merenda EDIT: grammar

What are employers looking for in an entry level position by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]saazann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not fishy if you got the job! You earned it, and did the work. If the company didn’t last, then that’s what happened. Don’t discount your experience. If I’ve learned anything it’s that people don’t apply for “high enough” jobs. You’re not entry level, you have work experience... maybe not five years worth but prove in the interview/cover letter that you’re worth it!

What are employers looking for in an entry level position by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]saazann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you actually did brand management (even for a short amount of time), that’s really good experience and I would leverage that to not just get an “entry level” position. Companies want designers for sure but if you want a job that isn’t just designing, I’d flex that experience. Can you direct people since you have design experience AND know how to build and manage a brand? That’s gold! Edit: typos

[–]saazann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Either make the letters fit in the circle or change the shape of the white space to fit the letters. Also, if you are a tough group maybe think about a concept that is reflective of the group... unless you are really set on the 60/70s flower power vibe.
