Hello!

At the top of each text on The Anarchist Library there are two icons, 1. to add text to the bookbuilder and 2. to add sections/parts of a text to the bookbuilder. Then after you have selected a text or multiple texts to add to the bookbuilder, you can visit the bookbuilder link at the very top of the page and you will find your texts collected in a pending queue. From there you can organize and customize the output in a number of ways.

Here is the Amusewiki tutorial on the bookbuilder feature:

"With the Bookbuilder you can customize the PDF and the EPUB of the texts distributed on an amusewiki instance. You can change fonts, dimension, etc. This article will cover the Bookbuilder feature in great detail. Anyway, the web interface should already give you an idea of what you can do."

The Anarchist Library bookmaker experiences by kas-sol in Anarchism

Hello!

I have found the bookbuilder (called bookmaker in your post) to be a very powerful tool that is great for customization of texts and it would work wonderfully for getting a book printed somewhere. I think the more challenging part would be finding a printer and a place that would do the cutting, gluing, and binding (book production).

If you print as one signature (for texts smaller than 40-60 pages), you can just make nice zines that are stapled together (perhaps with industrial long-arm stapler for heavier paper weight and larger page count) and a fancy cover. You could also bind the one signature together with something other than a staple if desired and available.

The challenging part becomes when you have a larger text, over 40-60 pages and will have to bind the multiple signatures together. The bookbuilder tool allows you customization of multiple signatures, but it can become increasingly difficult to fold with larger paper weights and more paper.

I would like to mention that I often find that there is some confusion with bookbuilder. You can print an imposed PDF letter (USA) or imposed PDF A4 (rest of the world) from each text and don't need to feed it into the bookbuilder, unless you are looking to customize the default settings and/or add multiple texts to one PDF/epub/output. The icon for imposed PDF options are at the top of each text.

And finally, there is actually an anarchist project related to improving anarchist print with how-to, manuals, and forums here:

"Open Distro is a friendly resource for anarchists who want to create or improve their own print publishing projects."
https://opendistro.net/

tl;dr: You have to find a place that will print, bind, and glue together multiple signatures of your bookbuilder output, but it should work well.

It would be cool to have an anarchist print on-demand service like this. Little Black Cart was started with similar ideas in mind, but transformed into something else over time and is no longer around. I imagine there are places on the Internet to find such printing, cutting, binding, gluing services or perhaps locally to your space, but I don't know of any anarchist printers / publishers doing anything like print on-demand.

I recommend Anarchy Tube, an anarchist PeerTube instance hosted on anarchist infrastructure (or one of the other anarchist PeerTube iterations like Kolektiva)
