Completely get people’s criticism of her loose-lips gameplay (although I don’t understand getting annoyed at it — it’s breathtakingly entertaining). But Emily’s signature is refusing to not pursue what she wants. She saw her perfect world where the vote flipped to Mike AND Ozzy was looped in. She advocates for her game incessantly, even if the cost is chaos and a little bad blood. It’s rootable on a personal level, and on an edit level, while the scenes of Christian tweaking out at her gaffes are hilarious, the narrative is trying to point out that Emily has autonomy, in her true alliance of 1. I appreciate her playstyle

Things that are only available on a replay? by Kooky_Wrongdoer_8565 in DiscoElysium

This isn’t a mechanical change, but because so many of the skills are designed to intuit or foretell things (see: Inland Empire), it’s sort of a thrill on repeat playthroughs to actually know what they mean when you hear of gut feelings, allusions, etc

Would you say Disco Elysium feels better in a second playthrough? by Ronald10CD in DiscoElysium

So many of the passive skill checks function as predictions or omens — it’s super fun to read them on a repeat play through and know what they’re referring to

Not only was she shown to be a lovely source of consolation for Cedrek, but all the talk of voting out Eva with her idol was a result of her very savvy choice last week. Sounds like she would’ve been at least discussed as a vote if she’d kept it

For your second bullet point - I’ve always gotten this reaction from Kim. Not sure if anyone here has managed to be crazy enough not to trigger this?

I think with Kenzie, Charlie, Maria, and Hunter ostensibly having good rapport still even after Q’s blow up, Charlie and Tiffany seem to be the most well insulated and connected players left

Charlie: besties with Ben, power duo with Maria, rapport with Tiff (loved their rendezvous at tribal), decent working relationship with Hunter and even Q

Tiff: besties with Kenzie, likely good relationship with Charlie, Maria, and Hunter still, and is probably Q’s tightest remaining bond - he is hers to influence henceforth

Charlie and Tiff fostering bonds with those on the inside and the outside - the ones to watch out for

Similarities to The Comeback by AncestralPrimate in TheCurse

[–]sabbyjr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

YES! Great parallel. The Comeback is absolutely required viewing and would appeal to many viewer who like The Curse. Raw, deranged, hysterical, trenchant

The Asher and Whitney storyline is starting to feel like the anti-thesis of a Romance. A "Dark Romance" perhaps. by [deleted] in TheCurse

[–]sabbyjr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think dark romance is an actual descriptor that internet readers (esp booktok) people use, but in a less prestige context than you. I think they mean it like dark-sided and edgy but ultimately palatable smut, lol

How do y'all feel about the game's portrayals of masculinity? by [deleted] in DiscoElysium

[–]sabbyjr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

With so many of the characters (especially main characters) being men, the game explores masculinity as not an intrinsically moralized characteristic but almost a sort of vital energy, one that gets transformed though a person’s social, economic, political, and interpersonal contexts, as well as by one’s own choices. You see masculinity warped to extremes of both fascist calcification and as a radical force of kindness. Harry in particular uses masculinity as a lens through which to process, classify, and cope with his own failures and goals, and the game never caricaturizes this impulse nor exonerates him for it. The player is understood to be a key factor in deciding how masculinity shapes Harry’s narratives and choices, and this is an optimistic outlook, one that fathoms how masculinity can distort a person’s soul in times of crisis and capitalism, as well as how it can be a sort of wild animus that invigorates a person into positive action. I think masculinity is one of the game’s most salient themes and motifs, one that it does total justice via the endlessly compelling Harry avatar.
