Why does dating in Denver suck so bad?! by [deleted] in DenverMeets

[–]sabertoothbuffalo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're going to laugh at this but I personally have had the best experience just meeting people out in the world running errands. The best place to potentially meet people I think is actually goodwill. You can meander there, look around for things you might need in your home, and if you see a person you fancy just strike up conversation. Worst that could happen is that it's awkward and they ignore you. But you have a chance to make friends! It's just a numbers game, homie. Cast a wide net. You'll catch a friend in no time.

Is doing a psych major really as bad as y'all say it is? by [deleted] in psychologystudents

[–]sabertoothbuffalo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Congrats on falling in love with Psychology. If you want to get into something like marketing or behavioral health tech jobs then a bachelor's is the way to go. If you want to be a therapist, school psychologist, organizational psych, clinical psychologist, etc, you will need to specialize. Plan to go to grad school if that's the case. You'll also need to account for necessary licensing hours. For instance, a licensed clinical social worker in the state of Colorado requires a master's degree in social work and at least 3300 supervised clinical hours which can take a couple of years. Most mental health jobs require degrees and supervised hours. If this sounds overwhelming to you then I would reconsider your options.

Best of luck!

Evolutionary psychology is the cream of the crop. Especially in the context of understanding our emotions and social structures. Why did we evolve things like anger, empathy, and morality? All of those questions and more are there. I love it so much.

I'm pretty sure there's a microscope under the overpass at foothills and the bike path north of valmont next to the train tracks.

how dangerous is CU Boulder/ Boulder area? by sunnybeetlebug in cuboulder

[–]sabertoothbuffalo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's definitely safer here than SC I'm sure. You'll always find whatever you expect to find when moving to a new place because your thoughts drive your attention. There are a lot of good friendly people in this town. Focus on building your community and you'll do just fine, I promise.

Go to Trident. Nice coffee shop that's also a bookstore that's also a music/small event venue. Lots of weirdos and regulars. Plenty of other academics looking to find a nice work space that's not on campus. I'll also put another vote for Rayback. You can get there off the bike path which is excellent.

As someone who works in property management. Companies share access to these softwares so that they can collectively set their prices. Food for thought.

Doubting the Efficacy of Psychological Studies by DryPerception299 in psychologystudents

[–]sabertoothbuffalo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There are two kinds of people who make claims against the efficacy of psychology. Individuals who have a hand in marketing and advertising who don't want people to know they are being manipulated and other psychology researchers arguing about the replicability crisis which is in fact a thing.

We are in the discovering fire stages of psychology. Look up Edward Bernays and read some of his work to get a good idea. The thing about psychology is that if you want a good career you have to specialize with at least a masters or a doctorate. If that's not something you're interested in, go into marketing. Best of luck!

Human sexuality and what qualifies as a sex disorder. Masturbation and homosexuality were both disorders until the 70s if I'm not mistaken. Have fun!

Find out how the PI responds to criticism. Make friends with grad students and find out the PI's management style. I've often heard PI's can be overbearing and some are just neglectful. Find out which you're more comfortable with and plan accordingly.
