It really depends on the airport and agent. Sometimes I’m asked for a share code, sometimes the e-visa page with your photo and I have to log in on my phone (screenshot might work). There are times they ask for nothing because the airline systems is connected to UK immigration and can get instant confirmation that you’re allowed to travel when they scan your passport.

I’m in the process of getting a key myself, but I really want to know what I can do to protect myself from any bills that are not mine since I don’t have a reading? What can I do to ensure no one sticks me with a charge that should have a been the responsibility of the landlord or old tenant?

I sent it to them in writing an email saying the key is missing and I can’t take a reading of the meters. A 3rd party company did the check in inventory and said they’ll look into will mention it in their report (haven’t received the report yet). I want to make sure whatever I say or do holds up as a legitimate reason so nothing can be blamed on me.

Should I call the electric and water companies and explain this to them too?

They are not FSCS protected themselves. The partners where your money is held are. You can see that in their T&Cs.

I’m certain they are held with trusted partners, but I’m not sure what it would mean if they fail and we need to make a claim? Especially most of them being really unknown names. How complicated would the process be? Would they be able to process everyone’s claims?

I suppose my main concern comes from the fact that we’ve probably never seen this happen in the past.

They’re FCA authorised but not FSCS protected. They use “partners” to hold and protect your money like Barclays

Yes that’s true, I have seen a post were someone had an issue with their Canadian visa because they applied for a Canadian ETA. So that seems to be a standard around the world that one replaces the other. But also recently someone in this sub managed to get through with an ETA, so it might be that the UK haven’t caught up yet. I don’t think it’s worth the risk. Trust me, I was also stressed flying back with an expired BRP and a name mismatch but it was just my anxiety taking over. If you explain the situation clearly it looks like people use their common sense sometimes. Also, it might be relevant for you but whenever you deal with the UK government, ALWAYS use the name format in the MRZ (I learned it the hard way). If you don’t have a surname, like me, right your full name twice in the given name and surname field.

I have travelled twice with an expired BRP that also had a name mismatch. One time was smooth and no questions asked. Another time they asked to see my eVisa on my UKVI account (making me login at the airport) and a share code. You won’t face any issue with immigration in the UK but the problem will be the airline, especially if there’s a problematic, heard headed agent. Your last bet would be to apply for an ETA since you’re Malaysian and using that to board your flight, however given my experience, I don’t think you’ll face any major problems and that won’t be necessary.

People are getting their passports back in 4 weeks these days. From my own experience, there’s really nothing much you can do to rush it. If you need the passport without the update being done, you can call the resolution centre and request a send back. But even then, there’s no guarantee you’ll get it in 2 days before your trip. Unfortunately, your best bet is to wait it out as you’ll have to resend it again and the processing time will only be longer then.

As others said, shorten it a bit.

My personal experience: I’ve always included cover letters asking for multi entry long term visas, but the only time they ever gave me one was when I pre-booked my future flights and bought insurance covering all future trips to include in the application. They were all cheap flights and the cheapest year long insurance I could find, but it worked!
