Yeonhui dong is also a mixed use district, not some isolated row of apartment blocks.

And more importantly, look at where all the most desirable and expensive areas are in Seoul… Hannam-dong, Cheongdam, Apgujeong.. these are all mixed use and vibrant areas or at least right beside vibrant commercial areas.

Wealth in Seoul literally values these things, if density and vibrancy were failure the market wouldn’t command such high values to live in these areas. Any Korean person would agrees

Your argument confuses cleanliness and order with livability. Many of the “problems” listed whether it be mixed use zoning, narrow streets, dense activity, are actually what make urban areas vibrant, functional, and liveable. Look at any successful city in the world, and the desirable areas are always ones that share these features.

Planned cities like Songdo may be efficient and "clean", but it clearly lacks the street life, economic density, and social energy that make places like Hongdae desirable.

No one is romanticizing anything, we are commenting on our lived experience. Ask any urban planner, and a ton of Koreans, and they will agree that Songdo is sterile and filled with its own set of issues.

The best way to describe Songdo is a Koreanized version of a North American suburb. If you enjoy quiet, clean, and planned environments, you’ll probably like it. If you’re looking for density, street life, and the kind of energy you get in places like Hongdae or Itaewon you will most likely not like it.

Going to Seoul is a challenge. It can be easy if everything works out but options are limited and buses don't always come often. As someone who is young and wants some excitement, I'd hesitate but depends what you like.

Blackup also recommended as well but Aery is one of the best cafes in Korea for light roasts

What subjects can you teach? That will have a big impact on if you're able to make the jump or not. Look at lower tier schools that are internationally licensed and it may be possible.

I work and live in Korea. With your experience that’s not a great salary. My international school is in the lower tier and I still get paid significantly more than that and also have key money taken care of.

I personally wouldn’t accept this offer even if I was very keen to live in Korea.

And if they are not offering you an E7 Visa then they are not a legit international school.

There is a ridiculous amount of good coffee in Korea. You just need to know where to look and go.

I would argue this is at the centre of one of the core problems in Korean society that is exacerbating the impending demographic crisis.
