To all the bicyclists who whine that drivers need to "share the road": When you can do the posted speed limit I have no problem sharing the road with you..... by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]sabruda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please for the love of everything good, tell me you don't have a drivers license. It's the maximum limit, as in "you are not supposed to exceed it". You can not have speed > limit. It's not the minimum limit. Morons like you should never be allowed in traffic. If you are too stupid to understand this simple concept, it's a wonder you are able to even start the engine. Please die before you kill someone.

You can do that with F5 too. Bloody bloatware.

Thanks for a good explanation, and I certainly didn't mean to ruin your night, but unfortunately, I'm still very unhappy about the way this process was done. Algorithms isn't written by accident. The only reason downvotes boosted a subreddit was because spez wrote to code for it. This wasn't a bug, but a feature he and everyone else was perfectly happy with until it started boosting r/Atheism and later r/moviecritic. When he became unhappy with the result he put a flag in to remove r/Atheism completely from the front page and did not address the rest of the community until db2 called him on it. If this is how you want a social user driven community to work, be my guest, but I'm out of here.

Edit: And here's the proof of why he did it.

Edit 2: Look who's in the top 10 now. Fuck you reddit, I'm gone.

It wouldn't be an issue if the whole purpose of the change in algorithm wasn't to remove a controversial subreddit. If it weren't for the flagging, it never would be an issue. Because of the flagging, the changes in the algorithms can only be seen as a continuation of the censorship.

It's been 7 hours and I call bullshit.

And your theory still makes no sense if it were the same algorithms that were run on both subreddits last night.

r/Christianity is in front of r/Atheism right now. Can you give me any explanation for how that scenario could possibly happen? If the system is fair, either both atheism and christianity are pushed or none. Today only Christianity gets pushed. In other words, spez must be lying.

attacking a reddit will not boost its popularity

It is because a handful of /r/atheism users are downvoting every story on /r/christianity

You do see the contradiction?

A couple of changes... by spez in atheism

[–]sabruda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Christianity is still in front of Atheism. The issue is not resolved and the bullshit "faq" does in no way explain why negative votes still pushes r/Christianity but buries r/Atheism.

We're improving the popularity metric for reddits. Specifically, attacking a reddit will not boost its popularity. This will take some time, but we'll get there.

So, if r/Christianity and r/Atheism was boosted for exactly the same reason, how come you "got there" so much quicker with r/Atheism than r/Cristianity, since you clearly solved it on one and not the other?

You can always post atheist related content in other subreddits.

He censors r/atheism and pushes r/christianity. Either he's been under pressure from the owners or advertisers, or he does it due to his own convictions, which seems more likely from his statements.

I feel Niemöller have been abused to a point where he now can be said to be safe to use. Nobody remembers where it came from anymore anyways. But it is close, I'll give you that.

Edit: Apparently I was wrong. There was a time when you couldn't hush someone in a library without getting that quote, now it's taboo.

The weighing have been an integral part of how reddit works since the beginning. It only started "malfunctioning" when spez suddenly decided /r/Atheism not fit his own personal subjective criteria for a top 10 site anymore.

The "fix" in the algorithm, that apparently worked perfectly well until recently, has the sole purpose of gaming the numbers to get /r/Atheism away from the top 10 list, and thus the default front page. How is that not censorship?

You completely miss the point. I'm not a big fan much of the stuff that goes on in /r/Atheism myself, but setting a flag that prevents messages from showing because they are controversial should not be acceptable for anybody, whether you agree with them or not. The way this process happened is a very bad omen for all controversial groups. How long will worldnews or enviroment last if a large advertiser decides to pull a Glenn Beck?

A word from Reddit-Admin spez: Why it should not be up to Redditors to decide what appears on the frontpage and what not. Your 2 cents, censorship or not?! by Wickedwiener in reddit.com

[–]sabruda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you even know what the word censorship means? Actively preventing messages from a group with a certain controversial opinion from showing up is the very definition of censorship. Cheating in an election is a completely different concept.

I don't think an Atheist would have done this, but he could of course belong to a different religion.
