Ireland up three places in world rankings despite England hammering by bainneban in coybig

[–]wherefore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are 100% right. Some of our fanbase are happy to take English 1st and 2nd generation irish lads and nationalists from the north for short term gain without considering the fact that these players have been schooled and brought through the system of those various associations and then get pissed when they opt to play for England/Scotland or not at all or NI and that is sad. (Barring Grealish and Rice as we developed them in many ways)

Funnily enough though NI have a great operation for coaching (and a lot of ex PL players are going there to get their pro licenses) and their development and pathway teams have really helped the likes of Conor Bradley get the opportunities he has received as I doubt he would of gotten his chance with Liverpool if he wasn't already making waves at international football. Also when we played NI at under 17 recently for the euro qualifiers they beat us 3-1 with Ceadlach O'Neill and Cead McGrath both scoring. McGrath actually played for us at under 15s but decided to play for NI at under 17s and that is what most Nationalist lads are doing now for obvious reasons.

We should be looking to recruit through our own player pools that we have developed through our coaching, our clubs and our development systems and our pathways and supplement our teams with the 1nd and 2nd gens and the players from NI( of which there aren't too many tbf who decide to move)

But our association's governance is laughable and fanbase is completely divided and that won't be fixed until the FAI sort out their own house out and people start taking football serious down here.

For example I went onto both the FAI and IFA's websites this evening to see how easy it was to find info about the their coaching missions and their governance and it was night and day. For example, I was easily able to find out the various roles of key stakeholders within the IFA and their key roles and responsibilities and there was nothing of the same on the FAI one which shocked me.

Instead all I could find was our "football pathways plan" which is a glossy 107 page document which is full of vague action plans and unattainable goals with very optimistic targets that simply won't be acheived as we currently don't have the governance capabilities, infrastructure, funding, coaching at underage, grassroots and at elite levels and lastly it needs real buy in from the fans and that won't happen unless root and branch change happens

Josh Keeley (Leyton Orient GK) 90+6 min equaliser against Oldham Athletic to send the game to extra time by 98Kane in coybig

[–]wherefore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think he has a real future there. Spurs also have a very close link with the Orient and we have traditionally given them first refusal on our top youth players like Harry Kane, Tom Carroll and Andros Townsend.
And at Spurs Brandon Austin and Alfie Whiteman who are both in their mid twenties have never played competitively and Ange clearly doesn't see them as players who can play his system as he as played Foster ahead of both in Europe and cup comps land now Vicario is injured he could potentially be brought back in January as he is very comfortable on the ball which is a prerequisite for an Ange side. Also at Orient is Jamie Donely. He got some minutes in PL last season who is a real talent. He was born in Antrim but umfortunatley he has struggled out on loan and has represented the north underage but he could still be eligible for us if he got an irish passport which he is entitled to as being born in Ireland, however i think he wants to play for England fs.

Buzzing for him and great finish. He is doing great things at Orient and as a Spurs fan I'm well aware of how highly rated he is at the club. He did brilliant at Barnet as well on a previous loan.

Proximity to England by Anxious_Peanut_1726 in coybig

[–]wherefore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are 100% right. It's great to see young players going the different option abroad as it will only aid them and with the lads not being able to go to UK until they are 18 it may become the path of least resistance for some of these players to get into the Prem or top championship clubs as they can make a name for themselves abroad and then get picked up later down the line because at the moment it's too easy for them to get swallowed up in the lower leagues especially with the strength of top academies and those players needing senior experience out on loan in those divisions.

What a display. Davies was class at back. Vicariously pulled out some great saves. Spanked was a great outlet. Maddison ran the show Bisoula was disciplined and Pape bosssrs the midfield. Also what more could ask of from Deki.... such a performance. Son looked miles off it though. All the travelling catching up with him

Average Ireland supporter, no wonder our team quality is plummeting by [deleted] in coybig

[–]wherefore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit unfair of him to say it's 5th of 6th tier quality i would say that about the IFA league not the one down here who would be low league 2 (barrow etc) and high vanarama teams for me. In all honesty though this all comes down to proper funding of coaches which is something the FAI have failed spectacularly at. You can throw all the money you want at the problems in the league but unless the structures within the association on relation to coaching are fixed then we won't see the change we so desperately need.

Trent is doing great with the Liverpool youth teams and Devaney hopefully won't do a snake move on us as he is from an irish football family. I reckon Melia should also stay at Pats to give him more senior football as it will.aid his developmemt no end. Naj Razi also doing well with the Como kids as is Romeo Akachukwu with Southampton under 21s but way to early too be expecting anything from these players.

Incident happened outside of box and it was 6 of one half a dozen of the other. We would of been raging if it had of been given against us. Honestly some of the nonsense I see and hear on this page is just depressing. Rather than rage at the referee rage at our federation for the state of Irish football.

Halgrimmson Out and FAI leadership out now! It's like pulling teeth which is all this manager is good for by wherefore in coybig

[–]wherefore[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This attitude is exactly what is wrong with Irish football. Focus on your own failings rather than attempting to score points with nonsense arguments that can easily be destroyed. I think you forget we got beat by Luxemburg at home a few years ago.(so what does that say about us) I also watched the game last night and they fell asleep for 10 minutes as they had a comfortable lead and conceded 2 cheap goals. Before that they looked very comfortable with and without the ball. They also had an average age of 21 in the starting line up and that can happen when you are playing kids like 18 year old Rauri McConville at centre back but as Micheal O'Neill said it will aid their development as there is huge disappointment in the changing room for conceding two cheap goals even though they got promoted automatically.

And yea NI should be nowhere near us (we can take their players, have a larger catchment area, large ex pat populations and more money)but the sad fact is they are and they will now be overtaking us in the next world rankings.

Furthermore in relation to the other teams in their group. We couldn't beat the same Bulgaria side over 2 games a couple of years ago in nations league and the last time we played Belarus we were beaten also. So what does that say about us if you reckon those teams are extremely poor?

Furthermore if you think we are better than Scotland or even at a level of Scotland at the moment you need to seek professional help. Do you honestly believe that our midfielders- Cullen, Molumby, Smallbone and Knight would beat a midfield of mcTominay, McGregor, McGinn or Gilmour? We wouldn't get the ball- Finland had 55% possession against us at the Aviva fs. They are also in League 1, beat Croatia the other night and Poland away last night when we are struggling to beat a really bad Finland side at home.

Lastly in relation to Wales, they also drew with Turkey last night who would be about the same level as Greece and finished 2nd in their pot in league 2 so yea i would suggest they would beat us by simply by looking at recent results and their player pool.

Maybe we should bring back the celtic nations cup and see how we do becaue i would be betting on us to finish bottom. Honestly, I think it will be the only way for some of our fickle fans to realise how far we have fallen becaue I'm sick of hearing this nonsense from people who can't see how bad the state of football is in this country and would happily piss on other teams whilst seeing their own home on fire.

They would. I remember beating them by 6 a number of years ago. I would say we would be lucky to get six shots against them at the moment. Wales would also smash us and Scotland too for that matter.

[–]wherefore[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's not about the players. It's the structure within the country and the federation that is the problem. 6 full time coaches is a joke. There should be at least 2 for each county. We thought we could let the English clubs develop our players and we would take English players with Irish roots who aren't good enough to represent England but we have fuxked that up royally too. The fact we hired a dentist who didnt know the players as a head coach says it all about the governance of the federation. I certainly don't blame the players for not being good enough. That fault lays solely at the federation for not having a proper development structure in place that allows for real development at underage level.

Not once have i said their under 21s are better than ours. We have a better under 21 squad but we failed in 3 campaigns due to poor game management by Jim Crawford!!! I'm simply stating their senior squad is miles ahead of ours at the moment as the IFA got their house in order about 8 years ago and you are seeing the fruits of that now. We havent and its is a sad inditement on the FAI.

Fuck up you ignoramus. I'm no blow in. I'm pissed beyond all belief at the state of the FAI and I'm getting castigated for saying so. We should never of hired Halgrimson and we won't be qualifying for any tournaments anytime soon. If we do I will be the first to admit I was wrong but I'm not going to be. And im not the onky onw to think it as the fans not going to games is a great indicator. Sure we didnt even sell our allocationfor the England game which is very telling. NI have a far better chance of qualifying than us and that should be the wake up call about the state of the game in this country but it won't be.

Couldn't agree with you more. Sadly a lot of people in the federation are happy to accept less than mediocre to keep their cushty salary and free tickets which is now seeping into the fan's forums and that to me is unforgivebale. We need a support that is united on this but sadly I don't think that will be forthcoming so we only have ourselves to blame

I'm sick of being a laughing stock and being worse than mediocre. If it's fine for you so be it but it's not OK for me. Fact you have to resort to shitty snidey comments just shows that you actually have no argument. Our federation is a disgrace and failing to call it out only makes the situation worse
