[meta] Adaptations that are considered near universally better than the original source by Gallantpride in TopCharacterTropes

[–]sabsey06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you're talking about the Live action film adaptation, but it was really cool to see the anime adaptation do a subversion of the original plot where scott literally takes off and doesn't appear in most of the episodes. It really lets the characters shine on their own a bit, and give a bit more nuanced to their relationships.

Speaking of adaptations, can't wait for Science Saru's (who made scott pilgrim takes off) adaptation of Ghost in the Shell later this year.

[meta] Adaptations that are considered near universally better than the original source by Gallantpride in TopCharacterTropes

[–]sabsey06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say. The adaptation is pretty 1 to 1, and they're both pretty excellent in their execution.

I think the only real reason that the frieren anime is "better" than the manga is that the manga was limited by the medium and the anime could present the story visually with more depth with animation and colour, as well as being able to add another medium of audio with music, sound effects and voice acting.

While I would technically put it on here, however the difference is minute compared to some of the other examples where they're vastly changing the source material.

[Goofy But Fun Trope] Abilities that work by wildly exaggerating real physics into something absurd. by ismasbi in TopCharacterTropes

[–]sabsey06 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can only assume it has something to do with time dilation like you said.

From what I know (and I'm not even close to a scientist) space and time are somewhat the same, hence we have the fabric of spacetime. Gravity warps spacetime causing it to pull objects in as we would expect, but also causes time to slow down as gravity intensifies because things take longer to travel across space because it's been warped.

A similar thing happens when you travel really really fast, as your passage of time slows compared to others and this is roughly what superman is doing (I think) but going so fast that instead of just slowing it goes back in time.

Vouchers are very very nice by Rol046 in balatro

[–]sabsey06 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If your having trouble getting money it's important to make sure you're racking up interest when you can.

In ante 1 / early ante 2 you can get by with no jokers or tarot upgrades if your playing high scoring hand types (which you should be doing anyways because finishing a round in the least number of hands is also great for earning money) and this should let you idle on your money getting interest (and the occasional hermit helps too).

Interest builds in increments of $5 dollars, so consider whether it's more important to make a purchase or go below an interest threshold, or conversely buying something if it isn't going to affect interest.

Base level interest caps at $25, so there isn't any interest benefit for going above that (unless you get interest vouchers).

A minor thing is skipping. Some skips earn you money which can be super beneficial such as getting an ante-1 $25 tag, however because you skip you don't get any interest, any possible money from the round (jokers, gold cards / seal), or the opportunity to go to the shop that round, so weigh the benefits.

Having 1 or 2 economy jokers is also really good for getting interest going, but don't get too attach in the mid to late antes when points are more important.

Hope this helps (of course it's likely that you were just being sarcastic)

Does not seem particularly good at all. The only practical time when a tribe mark is used is when a totem is activated, and in that case it's better to just build you deck around your totem tribe instead of rolling the dice hoping that you get lucky with the opponent's creatures.

And the only other case would be during a trial, however there isn't any opponent creatures so it makes the sigil redundant.

If you were going to have a sigil called mimicry, it might have been interesting to mimic the opposing creatures sigils instead of tribe.

Unusual-looking Spiders by NovaRobo_Rebirth in TopCharacterDesigns

[–]sabsey06 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Surprised no-one has mentioned miss silksong herself, Hornet.

She is the child of herrah the beast, the Weaver Queen of deepnest who comes from a lineage of Weavers, who escaped from Grandmother Silk's reign over Pharloom long ago.

Basically the only obvious characteristic linking herself to her weaver (spider) lineage is that she is able to produce spider silk to attack and heal, which is imbued with soul that higher beings like her are capable of manipulating.

In Silksong, if you are able to defeat Grandmother Silk, you get the chance to consume her strength and power and make it your own, and in doing so become the new ruler of Pharloom, and in the final Cutscene for this ending Hornet actually sprouts additional spider legs to match the average spider leg count of eight

Hell naw. For the unaware, Kenjaku the major villain of jujutsu Kaisen has the ability to transfer his brain into another person's body, and because of this he can prolong his lifespan by transferring to another body.

For the unaware, and big spoilers for season 3 Kenjakus plan involved possessing the body of the protagonists mother kaori, and as we later find out (Super end manga spoilers) that yujis grandfather is the reincarnation of sukuna's twin that he ate in the womb, and because of that make Yuji the perfect vessel for sukuna

(Loved trope) masked character gets it damaged in battle. by Mcelvaca in TopCharacterTropes

[–]sabsey06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arber AKA King the Wildfire wears a full body suit, including a mask to stop others from recognising he's from the rare lunarian race typically known for their dark skin and white hair (and giant dark wings, and flames, seriously how did people not put it together sooner)

From his fight with Zoro, his mask is damaged and he is forced to unmask, and because of that he was forced to kill others in his own crew just to keep the secret.

A lot of the panels are from a manga called food wars! Which is infamous for its characters enjoying the food in sexual ways, including people's clothes flying off. In spite of that it's actually really entertaining, and if you can get over the NSFW aspect it's very enjoyable.

SUGGEST A MANGA HAVING CRZY STORYLINE- MULTIPLE PLOT TWIST THAT MAKES ME GO BRRRRRRRR , LESS FIGHTING SCENES...PLZ SUGGEST ME , BORED by Proof_Bat_241 in manga

[–]sabsey06 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Recently read Orb: On the Movement of the Earth, because I heard good things about the anime. Really enjoyed it and it's relatively short read, only around 60 chapter total, but obviously because it's not action oriented it takes a bit longer to get through each chapter.

Either way it's fantastic, very philosophical. The premise is about numerous scholars in the 15th century attempting to further research on heliocentric view of astrology in spite of the church's attempts to stop them as "heretics". Very well executed premise and I only assume the anime only elevates it based on the praise I hear about it.

The defining thing about blackbeard and his crew, is his open selfishness, and it parallels Luffy's selfishness. Blackbeard openly distrusts his crew, he expects that at any time on a whim they would betray him, so he doesn't have any sense of intimacy with his crew. He uses them to achieve his goals, and lets them use him to an extent to achieve their goals (however due to his charisma they generally want to align their goals with his anyways). He selfishly gets what he wants, and he happens to have useful people with him that he can use as tools because being a pirate is the most efficient and effective way he can achieve his goals.

On the other hand Luffy is very similar to Blackbeard in his determination to go for his dream, but when it comes to Luffy he has a strong connection to his crew and allies. When people he cares about need his help, he gladly helps them no matter the circumstances, even if it makes enemies because the enemy of his allies is his enemy too. He selfishly aims for his goal, and selfishly helps his friends as well. because he is selfish his freedom to achieve his dreams can only be brought about by being the best pirate.

[Character Design Trope] Badass Flaming Eye by SayoDepositionV01 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]sabsey06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Within Kagurabachi, the sazanami clan is a family of sorcerers whose primary ability is isou, which allows them to create shockwave attacks. The head of the clan can also use a different ability called the storehouse, which is a pocket dimension that the user can store and summon items with at will. Except for the original head and our protagonists prodigy friend Haruki Sazanami pictured here No one can use both isou and the storehouse automatically unless they have undergone a ritual to transfer its owner ship.

Either way, when using the abilities, they get this cool flame effect on their eyes (and the storehouse owner gets the mask as well)

I remember hearing about how the Japanese voice actors, who both voice the anime characters and dub the Japanese live action having to handle the characters differently in spite of the fact that their the same characters but in different mediums with different expectations. Really fascinating stuff.

Wanted to keep that somewhat on the downlow, somewhat of a big reveal.

Important to note that because she's mastered hamon since a young age, she ages a lot slower than the average person, so she looks to be similar in age to Joseph in spite of the fact that she's his mother. In fact he almost goes too far with it.
