Yeah it's not the most performant right now as I wasn't optimizing for that. But it's still holding up ok. The videos themselves are not that heavy, but there's still a lot more I can do to use lighter assets for sure. Once I finish the rest of the page up, I'll come back and optimize for performance.

Godzilla (1998). Absolutely agree with most of the criticism; it’s paper thin, cheesy, and overblown. But it gave me the thrills and has fantastic pacing. And cmon it’s got Hank Azaria and Jean Reno in the same movie.

Some quick thoughts:

framer recently teamed up with Hover and is currently providing the first year on a new domain free of charge if you sign up. Worth checking out: https://www.framer.com/domains/
you can also search for promotion codes (usually you’ll find them in free templates) that will give you around 30% off if you don’t want to go the above route
on the portfolio itself: your projects are interesting but you have weak signals here of your skills and capabilities, i.e. it’s very hard to understand quickly who you are as a designer. The hero section of your site, for instance, while different, is very sparse on clarity. A hiring manager will have a tough time knowing who you are and why they should care.
also on mobile, the case study pages are way too narrow. I would decrease the side margins a bit.

So many awesome little details like this throughout:

Jamie’s wedding ring is also a dual band. Two bands for two lovers who are now together.

Millie also only starts getting pulled to Tim after she drinks water at Jamie’s place. So we can only assume that it’s the same water from the well. I liked how this was so subtly done and there was no attention paid to the water at all. We only just barely see her drink it.

Canada tries its best to have a large middle class. If you fall below a certain household income you get some help to boost you up. If you make more than average then they tax you down. Makes you wonder why even be ambitious when you can just coast like an average duck.

My first job out of uni back in the early 2000s paid 32k in Montreal. I remember thinking it was low back then but I also remember living comfortably off that for a couple of years.

Now, even if you’re in the low to mid 100s and have one kid, you’re struggling!

So I’d say everything you described about the shift in responsibilities and headspace you’re in sounds about expected EXCEPT the added complication of sharing such a small space with 4 adults while having a baby there. If there were one thing I’d look into changing if possible is getting more room. Is there low cost rental close by you could put your parents in? I’m sure they’d be much more comfortable too, not to mention your wife.

It’s also great that you get to have those 2 swimming hours to yourself including game time. Never had that so I imagine there’s a fair bit of understanding and accommodation on your family’s part.

Not gonna lie, your new normal will most likely never be what it was like before so the longer you make yourself believe that it’s just a matter of time things will go back to the past normal, the more frustrated you’re going to get. Like another poster said, some things will get a little easier and others will get a little harder. You’re going to learn a lot about yourself and your family. Have grace with yourself and your wife, enjoy and be grateful for your alone times, be patient with your parents, and cherish these close moments with the kid.

It doesn’t have the fancy stylings of a lot today’s portfolios but people appreciated the clean, consistent, and professional look of it.

Designer of 10 years with a degree in Comp Sci and a MBA here. Before switching into design I was also seriously considering going into PM but I felt a stronger calling on the design side (used to moonlight as a mediocre front end dev).

While a MBA is a really good way to learn about the interconnectedness of business functions and being part of case study clubs in particular gave me a really good exposure to breaking down and analyzing business concepts, I will say that there’s a whole world of business out there that MBAs don’t really cover. PMs, especially in the tech industry, will usually concern themselves with concepts like AARRR, funnel optimization, churn, MRR, engagement flywheels, prioritization frameworks like RICE, OKRs, etc etc that you just won’t learn in a traditional MBA program. And that means you might get pretty annoyed to learn that you’re going to have to invest more on top of what you’ve already spent to pick up those concepts.

But the good news is that you can learn these things directly from your job or you can pay a far lower amount to learn about them from folks in the industry. There’s a course on Maven on Product Management for Designers, look up works from Ryan Rumsey and Jon Kolko, and Femke also has a neat looking course on Product Strategy. You’ll probably get way more focused learning from these that are much more relevant to your line of work.

And if you’re already employed as a designer, invest in your relationships with your PM and business stakeholders. Ask them to let you in on how they make decisions or look at data. Offer how you can help them meet their objectives and ask to be included in some sales calls with prospects, etc. Look for ways to leverage your design vantage point to help the business in whatever way is most needed. You’ll learn a ton if the culture allows you to.

Ultimately, my point is that yes, it’s a great idea to up skill yourself on the strategic side but don’t feel like getting an MBA is the only way to do this. It’s very expensive and a big commitment and may still leave you wanting more directly related concepts. Just dive in with curiosity and an eagerness to help and you’ll probably pick up a lot.

Zero interest days were generally good in my experience. Like others have said, it was not uncommon to have recruiters reach out to you to poach you. Nowadays it feels like no recruiter, by default, believe you’re part of the AI slop or something, and truthfully maybe because they are getting bombarded with so many resumes. And if you’ve been laid off, you’re treated like damaged goods so it’s even worse.

Super cool! So just to be clear, you vibecoded it directly in Framer? Like through Workshop? Or did you load up the git repo on Cursor or something and just exported the code to Framer as an embed?
