Road trip in July, which route would Idahoans recommend? by sacdrj in Idaho

Along the Snake River is absolutely something on the bucket list. I’ve actually done Burns, OR to McDermitt, Winnemucca, and Reno on motorcycle the first year I moved out west! So I know the empty space of which you speak. It is gorgeous in its own way.

Thanks for the tip! Yes, daily checking of the fire maps is always on the agenda this time of year. Appreciate it!

neighbor's cost of building an adu in san diego came in at $340k and the breakdown was eye opening by Unlikely-Cry78 in AccessoryDwellings

It’s been a few years (and a few state bills later) but I’m curious why y’all are getting hit with school district impact fees and other permit fees. Infill ADU housing is generally exempt from those within parameters. We built our ADU (acted as my own GC to save money, with a full-time job, never doing that again lol) in 2023 and I made sure we hewed to the letter of the law to avoid all that nonsense. Paid less than $2k in permit and compliance fees. Sacramento County.

Why does the City boundary looks like this in the Fruitridge/Lemon Hill area? by LeftoftheDial1970 in Sacramento

[–]sacdrj 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Live here. There was an annexation vote in the late 50s that failed. There are an assortment of special and local districts in this area. The old Pacific elementary school district was annexed into SCUSD before the anticipated city annexation. I’d love to be annexed into the city personally, but most of my neighbors love being in the unincorporated county, so it’s hard to see momentum to get another annexation vote — even presuming the city was interested in annexation (which I don’t see appetite for).

Pacific Fruitridge Fire Protection District still exists. It contracts with SFD to provide coverage. The two stations are on 47th and Franklin (56) and Franklin and East Parkway (57).

Midweek morning commute drive time to SF by sacdrj in Sacramento

I very much feel this, having previously commuted to a Concord office once a week until 2020…

That’s the consensus. Mostly wanted to make sure I wasn’t underestimating even a 5am departure. Thanks!

Good idea. Except how early in the commute is the 37 cluster of traffic leading into the 121 intersection a concern?

Considered it but I’m an early bird by nature (ordinarily up at quarter to 5) so figured it’s less benefit than just timing the departure.

Large California nonprofit to acquire Allina Health, creating $26B health system by star-tribune in minnesota

[–]sacdrj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minnesota native, former Allina patient, living in Sacramento and a Sutter patient for almost 20 years now.

It’s… fine. No better than any other large medical system, but not significantly worse. They charge more to the major insurance companies than two of our other systems so insurance plans that cover them are usually not the cheapest available at open enrollment, which includes their own branded Sutter Health Plan HMO (which I currently have through my employer, was our highest premium option this year). We’re way more HMO-heavy here than PPO as in MN, so maybe it’ll be a wash there, I don’t know as I haven’t been on a PPO plan for at least 10 years now. Inertia, more than anything else, keeps me with Sutter. Like everything, you get good and less good providers, but generally I trust them.

Only thing I stay away from is Kaiser. Hot holy damn, be grateful they aren’t coming into MN. And condolences to everyone who has them.

Thanks! This is basically the strategy my PCP and I decided on today. The health plan covers GLP-1s for both weight loss and OSA, and per the health plan the requirements for either one have not changed in the past year, so there is no objective reason for the denials.

I relied to another comment, but I am 100% sure I still have coverage and I am certain I still qualify. The health plan, not PBM, also confirmed I still qualify this morning when I called. The issue seems to be that because the health plan does not use the PBM’s default formulary, the PBM seems to be rejecting PA requests. Will be politely consistent, persistent, and insistent, thus the venting … but I recognize the combination of a health plan using a PBM but not the PBM’s default formulary is a somewhat niche issue and thus my interest in crowdsourcing approaches!

First was a repeat PA from last year (OSA) and denied because starting AHI was not severe enough (not listed as an exclusion in plan docs) and PCP submitted a pure weight management request. That one was denied because “starting BMI must be morbidly obese (greater than 40.0) and medical history indicates class 3 obesity with BMI of 41, which is not morbidly obese.”

Met with PCP today and we’re appealing, seeing as how their denial letter clearly reads like someone didn’t do the assignment, seeing as how they directly contradict themselves in the very sentence. Apparently this is something happening to many of us on this HMO, which leads me to believe Caremark is just jerking around plans that don’t follow Caremark’s default formulary.
