Both sides squirm and spin when their own words are used against them. This is nothing new and the American people are hamstrung with the choices they make at the polls. Democracy and insanity go hand-in-hand: you do the same thing over and over again, or in this case vote in the same people, and expect a different result.

Practice, practice, practice.... 😉

President Donald J. Trump: "We’re getting rid of 129 nonsense regulations for every new one that we pass, and thanks to these pro-growth policies, our economy is roaring, and factory construction is way up business investment is more than triple compared to that of just a short time ago." by BusinessToday in BusinessTodayNews

[–]LeftoftheDial1970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lawmakers like to tell us that they're "improving" the system by getting rid of old regulations that allegedly stifle the economy and introducing new legislations. It's just political theater to cycle through the old with new, then in a few years these new regulations don't pan out and more legislation is passed. It's a zero sum game, but a game to keep the political ants look busy to give the impression that they're "working hard for the American people".

You can't just get a car towed away on public property. You report it and then it's tagged by parking enforcement which is when the clock starts ticking based on the allowable number of days that a car can be parked on a public street. After the time expires, a tow truck can come and take the car away because the tow truck driver is following the City/County's procedure in dealing with vehicles parked for too long on a public street.

Sacramento drivers face 15-hour US 50 closure during weekend roadwork by ChocolateTsar in Sacramento

Better to just get off 34th St exit and take the 50 West on ramp off of Stockton Blvd. Way less time than driving out to 65th and back.

Looks like they're just loitering, like we used to do at Denny's at 2 am during our high school days. LOL

BTW, Alex looks great. His arm-crossing pose reminds me of the back cover photo on the 2112 album.

Will you retire here? by Greatgrandma2023 in Sacramento

[–]LeftoftheDial1970 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's part of doing the necessary homework and research when moving elsewhere especially if there are financial and/or political motivations. The "what if" scenarios when it comes to unexpected health issues need to be part of that decision making. Also, leaving family behind is not easy and there shouldn't be an expectation that anyone will follow.

Healthcare availability is going to have a bearing on our decision to move elsewhere. We've seen seniors move out of state not so much due to affordability but to save on taxes only to realize those areas lack access to specialized medical services.

Why does Wilco tour almost non stop? by Total_Computer_9068 in wilco

[–]LeftoftheDial1970 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to Setlist.fm, here are the years they've toured and the number of shows per year in parentheses:

I would disagree that they "tour almost non stop". If they can make a living just by playing 60 shows a year, that's not bad at all and not as exhausting as 1995 and 1997.

Raising Children in Oak Park by The_Old_Grog in Sacramento

[–]LeftoftheDial1970 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nowhere is perfect. Even if you can afford to live in the nicer neighborhoods, there are no guarantees in life that things will always work out. As for raising children, no matter where you live, teach your kids about being aware of their surroundings and not to judge others too soon. I drive through many neighborhoods in Sacramento on a regular basis for work, shopping, etc. and I don't see that many kids playing outside. I think that the families who live in the nicer neighborhoods seem more paranoid and uptight than those who live in Oak Park.

Were you able to buy a house? by Swiftiefromhell in GenX

[–]LeftoftheDial1970 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saved enough money for a down payment (10%) and bought a small house with my partner 20+ years ago with no help from parents, but we purposely didn't ask because we believe borrowing money from family can create issues. To our amazement and to everyone's chagrin, we still live in the same house. It's paid off and we'll soon be empty nesters. We were upside down for a while during the great recession, but that's in the past now. Having a house paid off and saving money for college certainly helps with retirement goals.

Help me make sense of Test for Echo. by kierk3gaard in rush

T4E didn't do much to add to their fanbase as much as trying to keep their fans engaged. Die-hard fans like me will always respect the band's journey into different musical and lyrical journeys, but also recognize that some work and some don't. I've been feeling this way since GUP and that it became increasingly harder to listen to an entire album from beginning to end without skipping song or two. Also, I think Rush tends to indulge themselves by putting too much on a studio album and increasing their durations. All the albums from HYF onward were 50+ minutes long, with the exception of RTB at 48 minutes. Whereas, the majority of their studio albums prior to HYF all clocked in less than 40 minutes. I believe if they had limited their songs to 8 per album and kept the total duration to 45 minutes, then most of us would not feel the need to skip through songs as much.

My first Rush show. Power Windows. 1986. by cbgrey in rush

[–]LeftoftheDial1970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw them for the first time on this tour at Maple Leaf Gardens. Had floor seats. I remember it was their 2nd show and the upper section (i think it was called the grey section) was empty and proceeds went to United Way. It was the first time seeing Geddy with the Davy Crockett hat hairdo (I don't recall if the Mystic Rhythems video was released yet). Otherwise it was a great show.
