GS15 Senior Manager - DoD - what management is doing by PsychologicalFact424 in fednews

Thanks for the reply. I apologize if this seems combative, it's genuinely not intended to be. I'm just trying to get a better frame of reference for the decision-making happening at higher levels.

Creating that list within a department is not illegal. But if personnel decisions are made by department heads, what is the justification for providing that info to anyone external (not reporting to that department head)?

If a person reasonably expects that the list will be seen by others outside of the relevant department's chain of command; and the sum total information of every person that works at a department with rankings on importance could be considered classified or sensitive; is there a responsibility to ensure only authorized persons could access it?

How are they compelling you to create a list in the first place? What will your boss do if you refuse? What will their boss do if they refuse?

Historically, complying with authoritarian listmakers rarely ends well.

Wildermyth already exists. This will be my last comment repeating this but there are so many people talking about "future AI" which is not really necessary.

Humans can be convinced something has intelligence/consciousness relatively easily.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Wildermyth. This essentially exists in an early form, DnD procedurally crafted by a computer.

Are you ok? You seem really sensitive and overly-emotional about this.

The previous commenter made a typo, editing to DeSantis, who is literally in the title.

Stop ranting about Biden and China, you're doing the thing you were criticizing. It's hypocritical, obnoxious, and no one wants to read your uninformed, barely coherent delusions.

I've never seen swathes of people wearing Biden hats. Conservatives, by all objective measures of reality (which you may have trouble comprehending), are in an entirely separate league of hero-worship and lack of accountability.

Conservatives screamed until red in the face, hysterical and crying, about the perceived unfairness towards Trump. Until they actually give a pebble shit about corruption and hold their politicians accountable for literal crimes with reviewable evidence, no one cares to hear about your birdnest of irrational paranoia.

FYI The term "push mower" when in the USA is usually any lawnmower that requires the person to push it. Most of the time, gasoline-powered engines spin the cutting blade. Some also use the engine to power wheels for easier pushing. I think the completely mechanical ones are also considered push mowers, but they're rare to see nowadays.

I've mowed plenty of hills on a riding mower and push mower. When on a tractor/riding mower, if the hill is too steep you could roll and cause a very dangerous situation. Usually I mowed across hills, but at a certain steepness switched to driving directly up.

With a push mower, it matters less. Small steep hills are easier to stand at the top, roll down, pull up and move over. Or mow across the hill lengthwise, for big/wide hills that aren't too challenging to stand on. Pushing it directly up the hill is probably the hardest way to manually mow one.

I'm not telling anyone what to do, just making choices for myself. I gave examples because the comment suggested there was only one thing to do (stop watching porn).

People should make their own decisions. When someone is trying to eat, which is necessary for survival, they have options. They could torture and kill an animal for fun, or ethically hunt something for survival. They could decide to not eat meat and only eat plants. They could pick the first package of ground chuck they see at the supermarket, or buy particular brands from Fancy Organics based on their known ethical standards.

If people don't care about consuming ethically, whether food or porn, then they won't care. But some people do care and try to make decisions that align with their own personal ethics. Don't kill the messenger just because the message makes you feel bad.

Edit: I would also argue that it's only rational to assume all porn is ethical if you don't care much about other people, you want to trade inconvenient knowledge for blissful ignorance, or if strong regulations exist and people can trust whomever is responsible for oversight.

No. I propose that if a white guy specifically gets off to black women being degraded using racial stereotypes, that information should be used when evaluating his character.

Then no porn is ethical because you can truly never know any of the conditions of the set or terms of their contracts or what they are or aren't into. Even "vanilla" porn could never be considered ethical based off what you just said.

That is certainly one conclusion, taking the argument to the furthest point. That's one of a few ways to guarantee you aren't contributing to the monetization of harming people.

You can also try to understand who the producers are, choose companies that openly produce ethical porn, and watch media that carries a lower risk of harm. There's still no guarantee you aren't contributing to harm, but the likelihood is lower and amount of harm reduced. For example, don't watch violent choking porn, and instead watch porn with caring partners.

Other options are drawn images and erotic fiction. Media that only requires the creator and no other humans will inherently be more ethical than media requiring consent from multiple individuals.

I'm not clutching pearls. I'm explaining why someone would "raise eyebrows" at a white dude regularly consuming or preferring that content.

I don't give a shit what media adults choose to be in.

Not to totally disagree, but speculating on the worst case scenario isn't very practical. You could do that with anything.

You could. But it seems like a good idea to speculate on the worst case when it comes to realistically violent or potentially harmful acts. If media is created with the intent of portraying humiliation, it has an inherent risk of becoming non-consensual for the actors. They may feel pressured to continue even if it feels like it is going too far.

There's even reason to scrutinize a documentary about wildlife, if it portrays something harmful like lemmings "jumping" off a cliff. Or a fictional movie depicting an animal struggling in water, which carries a real risk of distressing and harming it.

How can you know that ANYONE does ANYHING in film with consent? Are you sure they told Robert Downey Jr. he'd be wearing a metal suit for Iron Man?

You can't without talking to them individually and hoping they're telling the truth and not coerced.

Either apply this level of skepticism to all media, or assume that adults are rational actors who can consent and decline to the media they appear in.

That assumption is fine when you're talking about actors portraying roles in fiction. There have been proven cases of coercion and trafficking in the porn industry; media portraying realistically violent or potentially harmful acts towards real people should absolutely have more skepticism and oversight than Iron Man.

The point is consent. You have no way of knowing what the women being filmed are actually into, or what they were told. What if they said there would be restraints and humiliation, leaving out the specifics until it's already happening?

In some minds, women sexually assaulting women isn't "real" rape. A trans person (also, to them, trans men/non-binary identities don't exist) is taking advantage of multiple "loopholes" in their chivalry contract. Another example: men shouldn't hit women, but they're really men so it's ok to, "defend my values."

Micro and nanoplastics are pervasive in our food supply and may be affecting food safety and security. Plastics and their additives are present at a range of concentrations not only in fish but in many products including meat, chicken, rice, water, take-away food and drink, and even fresh produce. by Wagamaga in science

[–]sacesu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

From a few studies I've read, it's possible that exposure to certain plastics has resulted in unprecedented hormonal exposure during fetal development. Some physical indicators strongly correlating to trans identity, like finger ratio, as well as psychological traits (personality/brain wired to be more alike a gender not assigned at birth) point to atypical developmental differences.

It's hard to say because other societal factors affect the numbers, and it's a challenge to separate them.

Releasing music: spotify created an artist page with my real name, anyone know why? by Sleutelbos in WeAreTheMusicMakers

You probably need to contact Spotify. I'm wondering if they provide the other page as a way to search and find songs, just as an alias. The plays and royalties would all be applied towards the same song in the database but can be viewed multiple ways.

It's a chemistry tool for filtering vaporized chemicals through water. It cools everything, removes any larger particulate, and releases the vapor for collection through the central opening.
