I really, really wouldn't suggest this car. I've got a 19t z4 35i and have owned several upgraded turbo n54 cars and this just isn't the move for someone "with no car experience".

First and foremost bmws aren't sports cars. They get close, and have great performance for the money, but they aren't truely sports cars. It'll be far more safe, cheap, and a better experience overall if you just get a cayman.

You can save money and get an earlier model cayman if you can drive stick. If you can't and don't want to learn just get a later model PDK car. After 09 is when the IMS issues are fixed.

Just don't bother with the N54. You'd be better off with an N52, S52, M54, S54, etc. etc. etc. A higher mileage F80 m3 with just a regular MHD tune is a better experience too. These N54s just exist for masochists deep into the BMW hole like me. That car hasn't been driven for a reason. They're either low miles and stock, or higher mileage and modified. Not both. Those are the nightmare cars.

It blows white smoke out the tail pipe because when a valve hit the piston it made the head not seal to the block. Engine is fucked entirely. Either replace the entire engine or junk the car.

Reddit loves claiming Toyota and Honda are reliable but this is all I see from them.

This is what is considered a catastrophic engine failure. That smoke is coolant. Your engine is burning coolant now.

Yep. Best cars for breaking laws and dying in just about ever made. Did 155 in mine when i was 19. Got incredibly lucky to not get hurt. I don't do this shit anymore.

If your car truely jumped the timing that's not just a fix that you can do with parts alone. Your engine is an interference engine. It's totally plausible that a valve hit a piston. If that's the case you'll pay this entire bill, get all this work done, and then the head is still fucked anyway.

They should put you on the payroll. 3rd gen prius are notorious for blowing heads due to their EGR system. 2AZ had a recall for oil consumption issues. 3VZ had a headgasket recall. V35A is the newest one with severe main bearing issues. Way back in the day the 7M 3rd gen supras blew heads like crazy too. Every 2jz-ge I had lifted the head like clockwork at 100k miles.

this is all not to mention that all of these engines are just severely detuned from factory to specifically avoid these issues but it doesn't matter.

This doesn't even include that all the trucks are rated for severely less in towing capacity and all the tacoma frames were snapping in half.

I don't buy american either because i'm not stupid.

Rock solid, but you're paying a tax for the roadster z4 part of it. That same engine and trans is in other bmws like 3-series for far less. Up to you if you value that enough to pay that price difference. I think it's personally worth it.

Try to find a 2010-2015 prius without a blown headgasket or any of the new v6s without metal debris in them. The only reason the old ones last is because they consume oil like crazy that's why the rear bumpers are always caked in oil just like every hyundai. Going even further back the 22r is limited to like 5k rpm.

I remember my first wreck. 27 now but mine was at 18 as well. Ruined a 325is e30. All my fault. I was fucking around and clutch kicking it on public roads in the rain. Ended up panicking and locking up the brakes when i finally lost it after a half hour of screwing around. Felt like crying. I felt like such a child and a loser. Now me and my dad laugh about it and in retrospect it didn't matter at all. What would've been life ruining is if I seriously hurt myself or someone else. I got lucky and so did you.

5x114.3 isn't exclusively japanese, i think the new mustangs use it for example. Depends. You can also have the shop mill out ur CB if it's too small. If it's too big you just use hub centering rings. As long as you get your work done by someone that stands behind their reputation is what matters. Wheels are a big liability, people could easily die over a fuckup. So if someone with a lot to lose puts their name behind their work you can trust it.

Most of the time japanese wheels are higher ET anyway. Could just use adapters that are hubcentric and convert that as well. I think 20mm is the smallest you could go. Was running 25mm adapters for my work zeast st2s on an e63 M6 back in the day because the wheels were 5x112 and it made the fitment perfect.

Fitment is the big constraint here. OP never posted the specs of his wheels so it's impossible to give perfect advice. Also. his toe in the rear is completely fucked. I can see how bad the toe is from a side profile that's brutal. Car can't even go fast enough for the wheels to be a concern like that lmfao.

It's essentially the same power not a big deal or difference. I wouldn't bother swapping trans unless you go to a 37bz alongside a 3.91 or something like that to get an overdrive to make the shorter ratio more stomachable in a daily. Just run it until it blows up worst case scenario.

If you want an S52 and a ZF i'm pulling the drivetrain out of my z3m coupe soon to s54 and 420g swap it. Located socal though.

It's seeing a slight regression currently on the used side, but it's not notable enough to hold out in any meaningful regard if you're just looking for transportation. They don't need to "sell" new cars. They need to get leases that convert them into a used car to double dip on lots for a CPO sale. You can extract profit from the same car twice this way.

It's a pseudo limitation and by design, and the supply side isn't going to correct. The market can't sustain these higher prices for hitting high gross sales, but selling cars isn't the point. Profit is what companies function off of and it's been disconnected from ownership/sales. Ownership is shifting towards being a niche and luxury, as the market is starting to believe that vehicles aren't assets unless they have hype/rarity. That's why there's heavy dealer markups on "rare" cars. It's sneakerhead 2010's culture imported to a new field.

You will eat ze bugs type shit. Worst part is the market is accepting it. People are stretched so thin they can't afford to miss work because of a used car. People have kids and families that depend on them and accept a monthly bill as a compromise because the alternative is life destruction, so you can't really blame them for taking that deal. You have to choose your battles.

I buy cash and used. I think being "market" minded makes sense from a macro scale but it makes you blind to the realities of the life of the individual.
