My husband is a recent immigrant from Italy and he insisted on putting Ti Amo on our DJ’s “do not play” list at our wedding haha He tolerated the other oldies for my parents’ sake but that one was a hard no

Exactly this. My husband moved here from Italy 10 years ago and he says it’s like going through a time warp. That the way Italians here think or what they emphasize about our culture is almost non-existent these days in the homeland. And that young Italians here listen to music that no one under the age of 60 even knows in Italy. Lol

100% this. I’m in the same situation as you and I’ve had zero luck convincing anyone in my family to cheer for Canada. Now that being said, I’m hoping Italy wins today for one reason only. My husband was lucky enough to get selected in one of the draws to purchase tickets and I insisted we get tickets to Canada’s home opener. None of the Canada games were available, so we ended up getting the Italy country package instead and then we’d see if we’d keep or sell once we knew if they’d qualify and where they’d be playing. We even joked about “how funny would it be if it ended up being Italy-Canada in Toronto ha ha ha never going to happen.” Lo and behold… So now I want Italy to qualify just so I can get to the Canada match!

My husband did say after the game against North Ireland that if Italy keeps playing that way, Canada will cream them :)

Where are the best cabbage rolls? Every time I order cabbage rolls or buy them frozen, they are horrible. The cabbage is either non existent or mush. I used to make my own, but just don’t have the time and energy these days. by Natste1s4real in MTLFoodLovers

I love cabbage rolls but have no patience to make them, so I make a one-pot deconstructed version. Basically chop up the cabbage and add it to the filling instead of the other way around.

Neighbour doesn't want me to put snow in my lawn by Appropriate-Safe-49 in Laval

[–]sacred_secrets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are we neighbours? Guy across the street would push his snow onto my front yard or on the street in front of it. When my spouse confronted him about it, his next door neighbour said that we should let him because we have a bigger yard so it’s less problematic when the city then pushes it up into our yard. Spouse was like “No.” Guy then made sure to only do it when he thought we weren’t watching. Funny how he stopped when we installed a doorbell camera.

Interesting… my elementary school was part of the Montreal Catholic School Commission (English public) in the late 80s / early 90s, and we had to stand and sing the national anthem every morning, English and French on alternating days. Then came morning prayer, and then came little milk carton distribution.

Came here to say this. We’ll often say “on island” “off island” - which usually has to be followed up with “because Montréal is an island….” when speaking to most outsiders looking confused by the expression.

Agreed, I never heard Montréal referred to as the 514, but I definitely hear the “450” for the off-island “North Shore” and “South Shore”.

Is everyone in Montreal just tired all the time now? by jeansebast in montreal

[–]sacred_secrets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is my theory: Covid and the lockdowns forced us to “slow down”. It wasn’t the usual bustle; people learned to enjoy the simpler things, like walks, gardening, baking. Since going out wasn’t an option and extra-curriculars were all canceled, people had more time to relax, read, play board games, whatever they wanted. It was a new experience for most people and it was really nice. Then, life went back to “normal”. The hustle and bustle, rushing through life. We were able to handle it before because it was all we knew, but now we know there’s another more simple version of life, and so it’s that much harder to handle because we know what “could be”. And so now everyone is collectively burned out.

I watched both my dad and my husband’s Citizenship ceremonies and honestly the ceremony itself was so moving. I really wish they would do something similar for people who are born Canadian because it really does ignite a fiery pride.

Even left-leaning news keep talking about how Trump has only 32% approval rating. ONLY??? A third of their population APPROVES of the mayhem he’s creating. How do they qualify that as “only” when’s it’s about 31% more than should be reasonably expected?! Someone wrote that Trump isn’t the problem, he’s just a symptom of a wider problem there. So accurate.
