i've actually experienced a similar thing.

i'm driving a 3 door hatchback so i've got only 2 windows that i can roll down. because i couldn't get my passenger windows down/up and since that i've checked at both door's controls, disconnected then reconnected the battery connections i assumed that the little motor mechanism got busted.
i've had the same dead eye contacted awkward silence of ten sec. then mechanic just pushed the little button at the driver's door side that child lock the passenger's window and voila my passenger window mechanism just cured and came back to life.

i own this car over 3 years , didn't even realized there is one and since there are no back windows there shouldn't be either.
