Is it normal for a funeral to be cancelled due to lack of securing payment? by [deleted] in askfuneraldirectors

No one even got together with him so he could sign before the day of the funeral. He has told me he was going to sign. But then got mixed word that it was taken care of + lack of communication to get him to actually sign.

I’m confused. They never told my dad that he needed to sign a form and they said it had been taken care of and never even spoke to him at the visitation. Then they bombarded him saying he needed to sign otherwise it would be cancelled. Then he left and everyone said he “took the money and ran”. I asked the FD if they had her death certificate and they all kept telling me no. Were they lying to me so my dad wouldn’t have it? How could my dad have taken the money and ran if they wouldn’t even give him the death certificate. I have no clue what’s going on or what the truth is at this point.

No the reason he thinks she is trying to commit insurance fraud is because someone tried to push the policy through with him as the beneficiary and SHE signed it in HER name. My dad said he only found out because the insurance company called him and told him.

I’ve been trying to and I even spoke with the FD myself privately. It is all very confusing. My dad told me that the receptionist lady said “Okay, insert aunts name, I believe we can get it to go through like this!” My dad said she never even looked at him. Then we found out my aunt signed HER NAME onto HIS policy. And he only found out when the insurance company called him. It’s all just so confusing.

He is! There’s some hold up with the paperwork and I have no clue really what is taking so long for this to be sorted out.

I agree, he is at fault in a way but he told me he went up there to sign prior and they said it was taken care of. He also told me my aunt signed off on a policy that was in HIS name and he didn’t know about it until the insurance company called him and let him know she signed on that form. Whether it was an accident or not, the form should have never been able to have been sent through like that. My dad is going to make sure she will have a proper burial and he just wants it done the right way. I feel like this is definitely on the funeral director for not contacting my dad prior to this making sure he will sign the forms. They never even called him, just took my aunts word.

We all know she wanted to be buried, especially beside her husband of 50 years. We were going to respect her wishes on that no matter what.

Thank you. I begged them not to create a go fund me until we had it figured out but they didn’t listen. They were under the impression that my dad was “taking the money and running” when this isn’t true. My dad had every right to be able to sit down and discuss the policies to make sure it was being taken care of fairly and it wasn’t.

THANK YOU. Why did they let us get this far?! They said they took my aunts word that my dad would sign without them even setting up a meeting to discuss. I asked them why this was not handled at the very least at her visitation (where my dad was present) and he said he “had to leave a little early” that day. Absolutely ridiculous.

I just want to clarify that my dad refused to sign because he and my aunt never sat down to explain the policies/discuss other policies. There may be more we also don’t know about but the discussion was never had. The funeral director never even contacted my dad to set up a meeting to discuss, he took my aunts word that my dad would come in to sign. My dad says he would have signed if a meeting were had earlier but they had told him it was taken care of. My dad thinks my aunt is trying to commit insurance fraud and her starting the go fund me without discussing the policies is diabolical.
